LG (Ret) Lim Chuan Poh is actually Perm Sec of Education, which is a pretty respectable post. LG Lim Chuan Poh was a soldier's soldier. its rumoured he favoured Offrs who excelled in command and fitness, rightly or wrongly, that was perhaps his perception. LG ng yat chung may not be the ideal "soldier", but let's just say he was the perfect man for the era in transforming the SAF. Why do i say so? GEN Carl Vuno (sp?) was the outgoing Chief of Staff (Army) before and after the Gulf War and GEN Schwarzkopf was slated to replace him. Now, in an era of downsizing and transformation, GEN Schwarzkopf himself thought himself as unsuitable..... instead, as we all know, GEN Gordon Sullivan enventually became the Chief of Staff and did a wonderful job (read "Hope is not a method" by GEN Sullivan for more details....) True, LG Ng ain't your true blue jumping-out-of-an-aeroplane Offr, but he's suited for the job right now.... transform the SAF... i have heard him talk in person and heard him engage his snr comds, he's not gonna chiong suan with you but sure as hell he will provide you with the best troops to make sure you succeed.
MG Desmond on the other hand is a soldier's man....Trained in Armour, once Armour, Always Armour.... respectable as hell, reliable as hell. let's see how things work out.... =) -
