I just got my posting orders...I got into MP...ughhhh...can you guys give me some sort of "intro" to MP, and tell me what to expect? I tried searching on the forums, but the information I got was really sparse...
And I heard it's the most hated vocation? Gulp...I didn't mean to enter MP...
BTW, I'm supposed to report this coming Monday morning... -

Cool! Man...where do you live btw? I live in Bukit Panjang...the camp seems so near...it beats travelling to Pasir Ris...glad I wasn't posted to SISPEC!
And can someone knowledgable about MP say something? -
depends on which branch u kenna...worst case scenerio is the precision drill thing...then better get lotsa suntan lotion ready

Within the MPs, there are sub-vocations.... one of my friends was with a investigative support unit. You get to visit camps to follow-up on incidents of a "criminal and serious" nature, e.g. such as shootings, murder, fraud, big time theft , any crime that goes beyond the CO's jurisdiction..... Any vacancies are usually reserved for A level or poly grads , since there is a bit of paper work and tech stuff involved.
There are other MP units that are more mundane.... e.g. guard units. Here, you have to learn to live with the boredom. There have been a few cases in the good old days, where MPs have accidentally discharged their pistols , when they were playing with them while bored at their post. So be careful and responsible. -
1 thing that i don't understand is why must MPs wear their no.3 leather MP band while in no.4 instead of the no.4 MP band?

Well, thanks for that bit of information. About the sub-units in MP...have they already been decided at the time of posting, or is there a sort of "common" training phase where they pick people out?
And, anybody knows how many weeks is the MP training? Thanks! -
hmmm... if i'm not wrong they had 2 different kinds of interviews during BMT for prospective MP recruits right? I remember going for an interview with 2 WOs in civvies who asked me all sorts of wierd questions while some of my other platoon mates went for another interview with uniformed MP specs measuring their gait and assessing their drills etc.
Heh, maybe a current or ex-MP can confirm this. -

I think you are preliminarily assessed based on your education and background before you go into MP training. The interview is then used to screen out a few more.
My cousin was in the "guard" unit type MP. He was not A level / poly batch .... but he was tall and presentable... so ended up a MP at mindef HQ.
My friend, was A level, later university.... he was in the plain clothes unit, which did investigations. He is definitely not the type who would want to be a MP guard ... if you know what I mean. Actually he went to SAFINCOS (SISPEC) and then posted to the MPs. Got to do a lot of interesting things... and more or less 8 to 5 job... except when there was a case to follow-up or visits to camps at nights. -

Anyway u're right: MP unit is also known as SAF Provost Unit, and the word 'Provost' is synonymous with MP (i believe).
So, which interview did u go to?
IMO, the Special Investigation Branch (SIB) one is much more interesting, think u'll have lots of detective work and stuff.
Anyway SAFPU also has a dog unit, as well as the DB under it, so u might well be posted to these places too.
From what i understand, the MP training is 10 weeks, then u'll receive your dark green no. 3 and your MP armband. -

Still remember had to sign in twice (once at Guard Room, one at SIB ops room) when I went into the row of SIB offices for "coffee"..Haha

SAFPU stands for SAF PROVOST UNIT...MP = Military Police... -

Hey guys, I got posted to be an MP, and I have urgent questions about being an MP:
1. As part of MP training, must we go outfield?
2. Must we put camo cream?
3.I heard there are 10 weeks of basic training where it's stay-in.. is it 5-day week or 5 and a half day week for Mowbray camp?
3. Do we get to book out/in in civvies?
4. Is there any way during the 1st 10 weeks where we can state our preference of our future posting within MP?
5. Is it totally stay-in for the first 10 weeks?
6. While doing PT/other training, do we still wear those grey ARMY tanktops/admin shirts, or are there "MP" tanktops/shirts that we now wear?
7. How xiong is the PT sessions/commanders in general? Is it worse than in BMT? Are they fiercer/stricter?
