L-Torch used in camp normally is the 2x C-battery type, can I use the 2x AA-battery model? How many of you guys choose to use the 2x AA model?

i used to use the AA type. but to tell u the truth L-torch sux, drop on floor gone liao and somemore not water-proof.

BMT now issue L-torch or is it still the old small 1 battery black torch?

still the utility of the L-torch cannot be ignored - it can be attached to the SBO and it shines to the front, which is very useful since you then do not need to carry the torch on one hand. i usually have quite a number of torches in my SBO - the L torch, attached to the shoulder strap, a small maglite, and another very powerful diver's torch (the one that runs on 4 AA batts). and yes, for the L torch get the C-sized version - the smaller ones that work on AA does not work well. (paiseh... it came to my mind that there were bigger versions than the one i have always been using, which uses C-sized batts).

i still use the 2 AA battery small L-torch, cuz so many commander items, cling here and there like christmas tree.
so idea is to make your SBO as light as possible, I think C-batt larger L-torch and the smaller once all about the same, and also in order to be tactical, normally you also black tape the round cover until you have a transparent hole no bigger than a 10cent coin.
so dun need to buy big as anyway after tapping end up the same.
and then when we turn ops, like 8 yrs back, no one requires use to use proper big big size torches also, cuz we are thinking soldiers. -

Sometimes I feel that the Commander's SBO is really jia lut

I hated the damn L-torch. I practically had to go down to Beach Road to buy a new one once a month. Just as the others said, once you drop it on the floor, it's a goner.
Considering the rumble and tumble I have to go through during every outfield exercise, it's no wonder that my L-torch would almost always fail on me when I really need it the most.
I used the double-A sized torch. Smaller, lighter, and just as good as the standard C-sized torch. -

I know they are f88k-up torch but SAF still want u to put on as a S.O.P. mah, so not sure the 2AA type "approved" or not?

Yup L-Torch is useless. On course, i just put one on my SBO for show. I actually use a cheap and good eveready torch in the field and when on guard duty.
Only problem is the lack of light filters but somehow i got through NS without using the filters much.
And yes, i used the AA version seeing as its not my primary torch. Also, for tactical reasons, carrying a large L-torch is uselss. -

L Torch sucks man ...and the old SAF SBO also sucks ...wah piang ..so many equipment to bring .. NVG , teleconverter, compass, beta map reader ...still got headset for signal set, ear plugs, whistle.then where got place put L Torch ....i frankly like the isreal Recon vest design ..they have a compartment for the fighting knife, compasses,torch etc ..

Edit: And i wouldn't recc the Divers' Torch to anyone. It does has a very penetrating beam and it is water proof. However, it is expensive and does not stand up to abuse. My yellow (yes, yellow. Untactical as hell but i keep it concealed in the day and you only use your torch at nite anyway) eveready torch took the abuse and asked for more. Luckily my unit takes a commonsense approach to personal equipment. -
Alot of time I save the e-mart credit $ for some other things liao hehehe especially those "useful" for out-of-the-camp-outside-use items like... heh heh

personally i find dat l-torch is useless.. dim light, on guard duty oso duno can use fer wad. i personally carry a AA size l-torch juz for show. in my sbo, got 1 more torch with 5 mag lite which i find it more practical.

ai yo.. just buy the big big L touch but use the AA batt to power it lor... can one lah...need mi to teach??
