sometimes i really wonder did we go all out for hardware at the expense of heartware....Originally posted by LazerLordz:Hmm, when did this come out?Together with the supposed new rank insignia? If we ever switch to woodland MARPAT, i'll be wearing it only on reservist.
combat engineers are support units. sigh, no LBV.Originally posted by lwflee:Ok Thx. But then aren't combat engineers considered as a combat unit? What about reservists.... *sigh* i want new stuff!v
Don't quite get the gist of you quoting my lines..Originally posted by chunyong:sometimes i really wonder did we go all out for hardware at the expense of heartware....
flimsy? and i take it to mean you feel they are like pajamas? that is really the first time i have heard someone use this term to describe it!Originally posted by palmerised:I don't know if you guys feel the same, but IMO, the current no. 4 is very flimsy. If you compare it to the US' BDUs, theirs is more rigid and doesn't feel like pajamas..
amateurs lah, u expect them to move as a 'train' and stack-up properly ? hahahaOriginally posted by palmerised:whoa that was fast. anyway yeah i guess. in the tropical heat, die lah.
anyway i'm quite perplexed over the 2nd photo..
1) why the yellow helmets?
2) what's that guy behind the one with the shield doing? why is he pointing in the same direction? shouldn't he be covering their 6 or something?
3) the purpose of the shield is to cover the whole team while they move to the area in a stacked position. why in this case are they spead out in such a way that the enemy can at least take down 2 of them? kinda like defeats the purpose no?
Agreed,The first step must be taken. And Urban Operations Company sounds alright, but I'm sure we need more than one company for LIC. Perhaps we might get a Urban Operations Brigade or two when the SOPs have matured.Originally posted by palmerised:Well since they're from 3SIR (UOC), i'd expect them to live up to their name..
And calling them 3SIR (UOC) sounds like the USMC's MEU (SOC). Hahaha at least theirs is SPECIAL OPERATIONS CAPABLE..
Wayang or not, gotta give them credit for at least trying. Hell, we've gotta start somewhere..
then maybe the UOC can take over STAR Unit's job ? dat would be best....take over the job but not the pay.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Agreed,The first step must be taken. And Urban Operations Company sounds alright, but I'm sure we need more than one company for LIC. u said it man! i fully agree sia...Originally posted by lwflee:It needs more material at the groin and bum area...particularly the Triangle at the groin area. This is because when you sit/squat, mosquitoes/sand flies have a nasty habit of attacking through the material.
ermm ..not much use ..those mosqitoes are from the Jurrasic age with feeding tubes meant for dinos.i been stung in my toes during outfield exercises !!!!Originally posted by lwflee:It needs more material at the groin and bum area...particularly the Triangle at the groin area. Problem being that we trained, not to fight in our own land but in some other area.Originally posted by palmerised:UOC still sounds funny. haha.. 'urban ops company' or 'urban ops capable'
but shouldn't everyone be trained in this aspect of warfare? i mean, then what's the diff between this and FIBUA/MOUT? so does this also mean that 3SIR (UOC) isn't trained in jungle warfare as well as the other companies?
well if you take into consideration the nature of the terrain in singapore, there's quite alot of buildings too so i guess the rest of the units should be trained too after the sop has been established.
Well i guess if you look north you'll know why we primarily train in jungle warfare. But regardless of terrain, i think fibua is an important aspect of warfare in itself.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Problem being that we trained, not to fight in our own land but in some other area.

urban ops capable infantry coy! interesting. but isnt it also time to perhaps come up with new designs for camouflage fatigues that suit an urban environment?
