the distance from the starting of range road to the range and back down alone is 1km. total prolwing distance is close to 4km. -

My recollection of Nee Soon camp in the mid 80s... enter thru' guard house at top of Transit Road. Immediately on left was a small Detention Barracks. Then road branches into 2. Left branch will take you pass a small laundry operated by contractors, then the swimming pool and the WOs and Sgts mess. Over on the right in a small valley was the ammo dump. After the WOs and sgts mess there is a road leading to the officers' mess (which I believe is the "whitehouse" mentioned in the posts). There was a 25m zeroing range nearby. Directly opposite the white house across another small valley was the Muslim cookhouse and at that time a stand alone company barracks was also there (2nd Wing Echo company, later called "Ninja" company !!! ). At that time Nee Soon had 2 training wings for BMT. Many recruits passing thru'. Baby boomers period.
North of the Muslim cookhouse was a residential complex of old bugalows , which at that time were partly occupied by New Zealand families (their husbands were serving in the NZ detachment in S'pore). This residential area was out of bounds to SAF personnel including duty personnel. They had their own gate which opens into Mandai Road. They also had their own MP patrols.
Altho' in my reservist, I was training in the general area of Nee Soon, I never had the chance to see it again, except the shops along Transit Road which were greatly renovated or rebuilt. So if someone can relate my historical perspective to what is being said today in the posts, it would be nice ! -
