1) What prospect r u looking for.....Originally posted by ubermagicseller:Heh,another question:
1.What are the prospects of combat medic?
2.I dont see that there are officers for combat medic,is that true?
3.How far can one go as a combat medic then?
4.Do most specialist as combat medic offered the warrant officer plan?Or they most likey get kick out after 10 yrs of service.
5.Any extra details you know and would like to add, feel free.
1. Regular medics can opt to go oversea for missions (e.g. East timor, Aceh etc.). This means you earn more allowance (sometimes in US$). Also, by going oversea, your promotion is easier.Originally posted by ubermagicseller:Heh,another question:

I remember the female nursing officer LTA chua????Originally posted by willgoh:1. Regular medics can opt to go oversea for missions (e.g. East timor, Aceh etc.). This means you earn more allowance (sometimes in US$). Also, by going oversea, your promotion is easier.
2. Not true. I remember SMM got 1 female officer(Sign-on) who is a staff nurse teaching in SMM. Staff nurse is higher than medics (in tems of what they are allowed to do) but they are not doctors.
3. Quite far actually. Heard from my encik that Amercian combat medics are highly regarded with many of them moving to private sector as Paramedics. Paramedics are a specialised field of medicine which involved emergency medical treatment in the line of ambulance officers!
4. Most likely. From my observation, medic vocations are Non Commisioned Officer plans. Doctors=Officers. Be realistic. medics don't lead a group of men charging at war.
Noboby kicks a regular out of army unless he is soooo bad/ lousy.
5. Do You Know?
==> Combat medic course is Singapore is recongnized (or certified???) by American Military. (So I Heard). This leads to point 3.
==> Ambulance medics learn the same thing as that of combat medics aka. you are certified to treat real life causalty. (Whether you want to do it is another thing)
1. Perhaps when u start out as a combat medic u will be a 3SG medic with some other medics under u at the medical centre. I think most you can get is to Senior Medic at Battalion, Brigade and Division level. Of course, the higher level u get the higher rank u get.Originally posted by ubermagicseller:Heh,another question:

Yes, in the States. We are talking about Singapore here, I'm not sure it applies here

In guess you are specifically referring to combat medic. There are lots of specialist not offered another contract upon renewal.

If you are not happy working as a medical personnel in Singapore, there are other places that value you more!!!

The problem is that SAF Combat medics may not be granted any civilian qualifications (beyond the "Heart savers" nonsense).Originally posted by willgoh:Considering the fact that demand for medically trained personnel are high ALL around the world, I would regard the above point applicable to Singapore. For all you know, they might give you a green card!!!![]()
One thing you should check is what qualifications you will attain after completing the nursing course. If you can become a qualified nurse, then you should note that nurses are in demand worldwide.Originally posted by ubermagicseller:Thanks for the replies so far, actually I am in a dilema now and not sure what to do.
I am going into engineering course soon and applied for the JPSDS(Navy),not yet sign contract. But somehow I feel that I dont like that course, neither do I hate it.
I was thinking of going over to nursing course and I have to decide fast as nursing course already started like 3 weeks. But I am afraid I might make a wrong choice and ended up wanting to go back to engineering course, that would be asking for trouble.
If I take up nursing course,I would then be able to sign on as a Combat Medic, more chances of getting in since my course is related to it.I know any courses that I take can also get me into Combat Medic as long as they want me to but I prefer to study something which will be related to my work.I dont like the idea of studying engineering and then become a Combat Medic.
So overall,my problem is that I will be going for my engineering course soon but having second thoughts about it and wanting to go over to nursing course. However,I am afraid I might regret and ended up wanting to get back into engineering.
Geeze,you know what I mean,so confused now.![]()
Can sign on as Nursing officer.... we have specilised medical force such as MRF ... which are run by regular officers... me not so sure about the transition to the civilian job after you ROD though!Originally posted by ubermagicseller:Heh,another question:

yup....Originally posted by andywalker:thinking carefully before you sign on,
In term of medical line a lot of things have to take care..
hell lots of responsibility to take care
if you sign on as combat medic you will go through a spec 2 course, if you performance is good then, you can be sent to even higher medical train.. then you be going on journey from school as instructor, to senior medic of a BCS or senior medic of a medical centre...
prospect wise, i would said unless you are really interested in medical line, or else all the things would seen boring to you...
If i am not wrong paramedic level 4 would be sent to canada to train, and is recognised in singapore...
got spec 3,4 meh thought is only spec 1 and 2 onlyOriginally posted by dk999:yup....
but a few things to take note:
1) you may or may not be sent to spec2/3/4 straight after your level 1/2 course (there are 4 paramedic levels) depending on performance, demand, how many instructors are needed etc.
2) there are a heck lot of things to memorise, and the amount increases exponentially after each level. if you don't want to use your brain, go somewhere else.
3) you are basically going to be a specialist forever
4) yes, level 4 can only be taken in canada.... but that one shiok... can see snow, ski etc.... (the good parts of the course)
true, as a sign on level 4 you may or may not have chance to go its all depend on your performance, i suggest you go to recruitment centre and ask about your doubt i am sure they can provide better answer than us, as well as can clear most of your doubtOriginally posted by dk999:yup....

Currently the Combat Medic Course Course Commander is a 2LT..a trained nurseOriginally posted by tarutaru:I remember the female nursing officer LTA chua????
U mean paramedic lvl 3? Spec 1, if i am not wrong only trained lvl 3 paramedic n also more on the management on the clubOriginally posted by CKtalon:Currently the Combat Medic Course Course Commander is a 2LT..a trained nurse
The current OC is a LTA (prev was a CPT)..They were all SPEC 1 trained..(equivalent to level 3 or 4 I think..)
simple. that's because the officers are doctors with rank of at least LTA and above.Originally posted by ubermagicseller:Heh,another question:

nah a soldier dont earn any berets from BSLCOriginally posted by Rockhound:juz reviving an old topic...
if a soldier earns his green beret from BSLC...
goes to SMM....
passes out as a combat medic...
can he still wear the infantry beret instead of the blue beret?
they get theyre green berets after BSLC from wat i see...the ASLC trainees already have their berets even before they pass out from ASLCOriginally posted by jeramy:nah a soldier dont earn any berets from BSLC
only pass out with green beret from ASLC as a qualified infantry specialist
During my time there are some nursing officer which are LTAOriginally posted by Gordonator:simple. that's because the officers are doctors with rank of at least LTA and above.
the warrant officers are mostly paramedics.
