I think that's true. When I was taking Spec II everyone else were combat medics as well. medics can go for SPEC II course (Paramedic level 2 + combat phase)
pass out as 3sg
regulars can then go for SPEC I course (Paramedic level 3 + combat phase)

the super zai regulars, usually warrants, and even then only a few have this:
Paramedic level 4 in CANADA.

the reason why u can't go spec II as service medic is cos it will have a combat phase. Also you are expected to serve as a snr medic/snr medic 2IC in future, both of which have combat roles in war scenario.
paramedics pass out "halfway" is untrue.
they pass out from the entire duration of their course.
if you will note...
CMC is paraM lvl 1 + combat phase
SPEC II is paraM lvl 2 + another combat phase.
obviously they will only need to attend their own phases; paramedics are peacetime responce forces not wartime.
another thing.
paramedics are level 2 or 3 trained.
level 3s are the 'medic'
level 2s are the 'buddy'
level 1 / 0 s are the 'attached personelle' or sth like that. (meaning b4 they go for level 2, they do ambulance or hospital attachment)
yes level 3 paramedic trained get that badge.
however... there is a new proposal that involves 5 paramedic levels and 5 badges (even 1 and 2)
i am not sure of its status... but maybe 10 yrs down the road we'll see it? ^_^; -

The lvl 2 medics will come after their SISPEC's BSLC to be Combat Medic Spec II..
The 2nd phase will include lvl 1 and lvl 2 stuff something like that..
At the rate how SAF works..probably it will come into place 3-4 years from now.. -
Just wondering... what else is there to learn about first aid other than the usual CPR, choking drills etc to necessitate the creation of so many Paramedic/Medic levels ?

the ppl will go like:
BMT -> BSLC -> Combined medic course -> 14 weeks i think....
which includes: paraM 1 + paraM 2 + combat phase
this will start next year... the last 2 courses of spec II will be over this year.
