NS Guide: From Ah Boys to Men

erm, maybe i am a bit too garang har...
but i am gonna write a ns guide... (focusing on BMT)
would definetly need help from ppl like wuming and it fact, all the nsf ard.
for now, can any one give details about
the PTP
and BMT,
something like
1st week : _______________
2nd week :________________
i will do a bit of researching in the forum.

i dont think your online guide will reside here?
glad to help. think for starters you can go through the FAQ thread (heh.. lao wang mai gua... ). there were quite a number of threads on BMT and PTP started sporadically - it would certainly take time to find and go through them.
i think one thing you may want to consider - there are recruit handbooks and other formal documents for NS, produced by SAF. it's just a matter of finding (and linking?) to them. so your guide probably won't want to duplicate such effort, but instead, gist the more important and interesting information out of these guides for easy viewing. then, the value add would come in the form of unrecorded, informal knowledge, based on people's experience - these will be things like what to bring for BMT, what to have handy in the webbing, the tips for surviving BMT less painfully, etc.

i have been to one, but is without the computer test thingy, only the body checkup part...
anyone wanna answer this? -
for my case, in the final year of my poly studies, Mindef will send a NS Registration letter to register your info online through MIW for Pre-Enlistees (www.cmpb.gov.sg). there are some 8 to 10 stations where your blood test, eyesight, hearing, blood pressure, heart beat, height and weight, chest x-ray, urine test, uniform fitting measurement such as cap size, foot size. last station is where your balls are checked and Q&A with the MO where you are down to your shorts no less.
and there is a photo taking session as well for your SAF 11b card near the counter and at the end, a file with the booklets such as napfa test info, get fit for NS, recruits and parents' handbooks...
this medical part will take 2hrs. and for those who wear glasses/contact lens, remove them at least half an hour before taking the eye test. -
computer test and uniform fitting?

after the medical checkup, you will go into a room to take the Vocational Assessment test (computer test). about 7 sets of 20 questions each. the sets consider of questions with maths, IQ, reflex, general knowledge, logic and some 'guess-the-next-pattern-after-this-pattern' to determine what kind of vocations suit you the best of your limit.Originally posted by kwlee:can anyone confirm with me the medical checkup procedure...

there is some paper and a pen for you to do some calculations.
the test if you fully take your time and effort is 2hrs. some hack care finished the test in 15mins simplying by skipping all questions using the Enter key all the way.
PS: pls don't screw this up, or else you will end up in some lousy vocation (mess boy, cook or others) for the next 2 years of your life. for those who think NS is a waste of time... going to a lousy vocation is EVEN a more waste of time. think about it.. and for your future employment, guess what the employer will think.... -
