1) What happens after BMT?
you will either get posted to training school again, (SISPEC or OCS) or to your unit which you will be with throughout ur NSF and NSMEN liability. that is if you are doing ARMY BMT. Not that sure for NAVY bmt.
2) By the time I enter the army, I would be 20,21, with a degree in law (honours), performing diplomas (above grade 8 ) in music (piano & flute), as well as competency in guitar and the saxophone. My results have always been above average throughout my life's education and I took on several leadership roles throughout my education (good CCA record, school references as well). It should also be known that I come from a single parent family. My PFT is gold standard, and I have survivor, lifeguard and diving qualifications; I'm in the normal height/weight ratio/range. Under such circumstances where will I be posted? I've been told very often that I'll definitely be posted to the Officer Core but recently it has come to my attention that coming from a single parent family puts me in a favourable position to be posted to a "9-5" job.
you are not a local student, right? no one will know where you will end up at after bmt. so dont bother to go and think about it at all
3) How long reservist do I have to serve as an officer, as compared to being a normal soldier? What about the pay difference?
if you are not an officer
REC=350
PTE=450 (350+100 combat pay)
LCP=470(370+100)
CPL=520(420+100)
3SG=700+
the additioanl 100 is only for COMABT VOCATION
officer=1000+
for reservist
NON-OFFICER=up to 40years old or 13 cycle of ICT whichever is earlier
OFFICER=up to 50years old or 13 cycle of ICT whichever is earlier (if i am not mistaken)
I thank all of you in advance for clearing up my doubts, if not when my time comes, I would not have a clue even if someone was ^*@$ting me.
P.S.: Sorry for double posting, military nuts & S.A.F. forums seem almost identical to me.
That's another myth.Originally posted by supafatty:Referring to my education, if you must know, I finished my O levels with 8pts before any "bonus deductions". I then went on to Australia for my foundation studies where I achieved a grade point average of 9.8/10. I've been in law school since.
Hmm.. Alright, seems that almost everyone I've spoken to is wrong about me becoming an officer, that doesn't really matter, but what about the 9-5 job? Can anyone elaborate on that? I'm from a single parent family, and I've been told that I will be posted to a 9-5 job (can go home after that) regardless of my education, qualifications, and physicial test results.
very entertaining...Originally posted by supafatty:Hey guys, hope you don't mind answering my following questions on my compulsary service to the nation as I have no hints on what to expect.

Dude, I've tried to answer Q2 and Q3.Hope they helped.Originally posted by supafatty:Hey guys, hope you don't mind answering my following questions on my compulsary service to the nation as I have no hints on what to expect.

First, I'm quite impressed with the path you have taken prior to enlistment.That was the path I was that close to walking during Sec 3..was supposed to go over to Australia and join the High School system..but hehe, guess what, some circumstances made it tough for me to do so.Anyway..I'll see how I can answer your questions
With regards to your musical qualifications,you might end up in MDC(Music and Drama Company) or SAF Central Band.If it were a fair world, your law degree might have gotten you into the Legal Services Department, but this is SG and you know the story goes..
OCS is a possibility too, due to your fitness.But as someone has said prior to my reply, it's your PC's evaluation which has some bearing on this issue.Do your best, don't try to be the sore thumb, help your mates earnestly yet not appearing to be trying to carry their balls,so to speak.However, the OCS intake has been streamlined slightly, and you have to go through an initial selection at SISPEC.
You could also end up being a Military Engg Spec or Logistic Spec, given your PES status.
The single parent family issue is not a factor that the SAF really takes into account..I have a friend who hails from a single parent family but he's an Armour PC.
8-5 job hours are normally associated with clerical and technical vocations.In combat, you might have to seek your own superior's permission to do so.It's more on a needs basis, and it's reviewed case by case.

Officers serve till 55.Enlisted men and Specialists serve till 40.

Hey give him a break man..Originally posted by Joshua1975:very entertaining...
By the time...i will be the CDF and exempt you from NS lor.
Dont bother, with your qualifications, the aim is to get out to the real world as fast as possible. As an officer, you serve to 55. Ten more years than NCO or man, what for?Originally posted by supafatty:LazerLord I really appreciate your detailed and very helpful response, Thank You.
To the rest, especially a very sacarstic person whom I shall decline to name, with regards to the above, I only put down my full educational background with my additional qualifications just so that people who have been there like yourselves can advise me on what to expect with my "cv" as I honestly do not have a clue on what to expect from NS in every sense and have been led under the impression by a very large number of people who have ORD-ed that my educational background/qualifications will play a large factor in where I get posted to after BMT. I apologise if I have unintentionally offended some of you with a false portrayal of arrogance.
Indeed.Hopefully he becomes a Spec at most.Better life and better pay.Originally posted by Xprobe:Dont bother, with your qualifications, the aim is to get out to the real world as fast as possible. As an officer, you serve to 55. Ten more years than NCO or man, what for?
yah...tt's wat i heard too..cuz if u boast too much, the more tulan ur PC will get..like eg u r NCC CLT or wateva big fark, juz keep ur mouth shut when u r in army...onli ur performance will help u in army..Originally posted by oxford mushroom:One tip for you....If I were you, I wouldn't let anyone in the army know my cv if it appears too outstanding
that is a myth - whether you an 8 to 5 job depends on the job, not whether you are an officer or not.Originally posted by kentheman:normally, if u r officer, most likely, u'll get 8-5...but tt oso highly depends on which camp u r in...
