Wrong. Super Puma is a medium-heavy lift copter. RSAF presently looking for new copter to replace UH-1. Some of our remaining UH-1 had been sold second-hand to Phillipines AirForce liao. Only left a handfull of UH-1 at Sembawang.Originally posted by kopiosatu:Super pumas are taking over UH-1H for now.

Our Super Puma already reaching their retirement age.....
Well, SAF is notorious for being a heavy spender. The biggest portion of annual budget always goes to defence spending. Why do you think they cut short NS to 2 years? because they want to cut manpower cost so that they have more $$ to buy fancy new 'toys'.Originally posted by risenlava:well the government is gonna b broke buying so much high tech stuff for the army & it may nt even b deployed in s'pore... take those multi-billion apaches the army bought yrs ago... stationed overseas??? in wartime before they even reach us the enemy tanks would b swarming all over the place... i noe they are attack choppers built for tank-busting but if they can destroy a tank all the way frm usa... wow... those MH-60 or izzit nightstalkers or sumting... they r the elite choppers in the us air force... i doubt usa would sell tat kind of technology to other countries... correct me if im wrng but no other countries hv tat MH-60s i tink...
The MH-60K is based on the UH-60K, with extra fuel tanks, armour and additional avionics.Originally posted by risenlava:well the government is gonna b broke buying so much high tech stuff for the army & it may nt even b deployed in s'pore... take those multi-billion apaches the army bought yrs ago... stationed overseas??? in wartime before they even reach us the enemy tanks would b swarming all over the place... i noe they are attack choppers built for tank-busting but if they can destroy a tank all the way frm usa... wow... those MH-60 or izzit nightstalkers or sumting... they r the elite choppers in the us air force... i doubt usa would sell tat kind of technology to other countries... correct me if im wrng but no other countries hv tat MH-60s i tink...
hmm if me not wrong its bought from texas air force national guard....Originally posted by Zooish:The apaches are not stationed overseas per se, they're just currently based there for training. Some are scheduled to head back to Singapore next year if i'm not mistaken.
it is better to station them overseas and have proper training.Originally posted by risenlava:well the government is gonna b broke buying so much high tech stuff for the army & it may nt even b deployed in s'pore... take those multi-billion apaches the army bought yrs ago... stationed overseas??? in wartime before they even reach us the enemy tanks would b swarming all over the place... i noe they are attack choppers built for tank-busting but if they can destroy a tank all the way frm usa... wow... those MH-60 or izzit nightstalkers or sumting... they r the elite choppers in the us air force... i doubt usa would sell tat kind of technology to other countries... correct me if im wrng but no other countries hv tat MH-60s i tink...

oh ya... spare parts... those are nt going to come cheap & readily available...Originally posted by kopiosatu:it is better to station them overseas and have proper training.
rather than be in the predicament our neighbours up north are in now.
buy aircraft, start flying but dunno how to service. have to call the technical crew from original company to come down and fix it. after they cock it up, they decide to send their men for training.
what's more, aircraft unserviceable, no spare parts.
tell me, how much downtime do you want your airforce to suffer?
and after the crew overseas have been fully trained and are declared fully operational, they will come back and train the next batch.
then you're sure your aircrafts are gonna run smooth.
especially when you plan to order originals. they are expensive and come straight from the manufacturer.Originally posted by risenlava:oh ya... spare parts... those are nt going to come cheap & readily available...
