HEAT KILLS SCOTTISH SOLDIER IN OMAN
May 30 2005
A SCOTTISH soldier died from heat-related injuries while training in Oman, the Ministry of Defence said yesterday.
Corporal Peter Armour collapsed on a training run in Seeb on May 18 and died in hospital just over a week later on May 27.
The 26-year-old, from Glasgow, who served with the Royal Signal Corps, leaves behind a wife and daughter.
An MoD spokesman said that the Signals Corps deployment in Oman was unconnected with British operation in Iraq.
The exercise was part of a long-term commitment by the British Army to help train soldiers of the Sultan's army and help maintain security in the tiny but wealthy Gulf state.
Oman has massive oil and gas reserves and occupies a key position on the sea route taken by tankers from the Saudi and Kuwaiti oilfields out of the Persian Gulf
