hmmm... i think SOF holds selections for thier men... so may be you can check with them when the selection is.At first i tot only commando is allow to cross over to SOF, but then i have heard friends who have camp mates who went for the Selection..

ex-reg logistician? so how old are you? i imagine age would be one of their selection criteria but for details you ought to go to the army recruitment centre, i suppose.
well as far as being a logistician/non-commando goes - that's no barrier. i personally know 2 fellows in the force now - one who was a driver as an NSF, and another who crossed over from ADF. so vocation-wise i don't see a problem. -
tup... i think anyone from any vocation who's interested in SOF should be given a chance to go for the selection... commando is also human.. they are nt superman..haha... so other people from other vocation may fit the bill better than they do. i've heard people from armour going for SOF selection...
But to what i heard, the SOF selection is very tuff. -
the selection is tough n little sleep but very physically and mentally straining.... the key to success is never give up no matter how tough the going is... so long as u don't ring the bell u will make it for the 1-yr training before going thru the final hell week....

Many many years ago, I was invited to a recruitment talk by SOF. It was before a batch of us were to ROD from full time NS. In the talk then, the commander spoke about who he would like to see and he made it plain that it was not all commandos (or guardsmen) he was looking for. (Why else would he invite "normal" infantry officers and NCOs to the talk???). The only thing he stressed, which I remember to this day are:-
1) If you have a special civilian skill already... it is a plus-point
2) High IPPT scores
3) Can swim well
4) Not too "gung-ho"
5) Reasonable academic record
Point number 4, he dwelled on for quite a bit of time. He said that he wanted "calculated risk takers" not " gamblers". No such thing as the gung-ho Rambos or the SWAT movie type of person. The mission of the SOF is not always hostage rescue. He briefed us on the type of missions that SOF will conduct... which explains the other recruitment criteria. -
Thanks for all the infor..btw..i'm 25yrs old liao.coz i apply for police force be4 applying for SOF..heard u have to be a normal police officer be4 joining the star unit..but they dun accept N level holder coz i apply online until they ban me..but not sure whether it apply for sof or not..btw..which unit exposed to more dangerous mission..SOF or S.T.A.R?thx again..

Hmm ... well i did have the same talk, i was a infantry trained cadet then ..the warrent officer, gave us a recuritment talk on the SOF,medical checkup etc..So i could assume that servicemen from all vocations were able to sign up for SOF Selection.
He did say there was no bad or gd unit, which one was better. The members of the SOF were all ambassodors of their respective formations.
I had a fren who went for the selection and sadly didn't make it during a 40km fastmarch or something like that (didn't probe too much, he was pretty sad by it). All i can say train hard and tough ..it ain't easy !

Actually I shared a half-joke with my boss, who was an ex-police NS inspector.
After hearing his exploits, and comparing with my army NS exploits, we both concluded that in peace time, the NS policeman actually faces death or injury threats many more times than the NS army chap. For example, he was involved in an armed robbery many many years ago. And he had to draw his revolver in pursuit. I, in the army, had never drawn my weapon in anger.
Coming back to STAR vs SOF, if you are going to STAR, chances are that you will be called out more often than a SOF trooper. Note that I am talking about frequency and hence probability of being injured or killed in the line of duty. I am not talking about "intensity" of activity which is a different matter. I believe if the SOF trooper is mobilised, he will face a situation that is many more times dangerous to his health than a armed robbery scenario. -

And you put it precisely, SOF looks for problem solvers, people who think and reflect fast and thoroughly. -

jus went for interview in cmpb today..the officer told me tat they are not qualify to decide for the selection...so they advise me to sign on and go for
commando selection and from there apply for the SOF selection..i need to go for specialist course and my rank is 1sg...I do not want to waste another 10 yrs if i fail just for the interview coz i need to sign on again..pls advise...thx.. -
hi.... first of all... if you think that sign-on is a WASTE OF TIME (10 yrs) ..... then i would advise you to give up your dream of being in the SOF... hence, even if you are super FIT... or SUPER SMART... theres still a CHANCE which you will FAILED or NOT BEING SELECT
.... pls dont get me wrong! im just telling the facts! as.... you dont have the interest in staying in SAF
just imagin.... if you were to fail your selection (SOF) ... then where you wanna go? your SITUATION was different from others NSF. as they stand a chance to SIGN ON if they were selected but not you .... and thats why CMPB staff NEED YOU to sign on again
anyway, if you r so keen in SOF life.... then i would suggest you sign on as a commando, life's in commando also quite challanging! and from there, if you wanna attend the SOF course, and you were selected.... YOU STILL STILL A CHANCE TO BE SOF if not.... then you LL lor... stay in commando lor -

Hi, I was selected for taking the SOF selection test last time when I'm still in NS, but I chose to drop the idea, I used to be an airborne/diver/Recon Specialist. Yes, you can re-apply SOF after your national service provided it must within two years and before their age limit, which I can't remembered.
