Yuppp.... the units ear-marked for initial deployment in any type of conflict that SAF would participate in, would "kana" full and complete mobilisation.
I was recalled once by silent mob on a Sunday night ! Was in advance party , so had to be there almost immediately. The full time NSF guarding the camp was already fully deployed... the camp guards were wearing camo cream , helmets (not berets) , bayonets on for every guard.... guardhouse and camp was blacked out (no lights as far as possible) ... all camp guards were located at sandbagged positions (not in guard room). All were at "stand-to".
MP platoon was on standby in land rovers ... their orders were to go out and search and bring in those reservists who do not come in at the right time. Including officers and senior specs (NCOs).
Reservists were called in... commanders and leaders had to draw maps and weapons. Full admin and ops load. Men , when they came in , were immediately put under the RSM and made to do preparation tasks ... draw vehicles, ammo, etc etc. The rest of the commanders and leaders had to attend orders and briefings.
Basically , for the first hour or so, some of us were not sure if it was for real or not. It corresponded with a period of uncertainty in the region at that time.
Cannot stand-down until the next day ( around lunch time) !
My was advance party moved out at 11pm. Op order 2am, live firing at 6am. End at 3pm. Return ammo & store, book up at 7pm
