nope, actually medic specialist is a rather short course.
NOW:
BMT + BASIC MEDIC COURSE + 1~3 months break + spec II
= 7-9 months
IF the new system comes into play....
BMT + BSLC + ??? Months break if any + combined Level 1 and 2 course
= 7 months +++
you don't have much diff.... in fact it may be better becos
1) the sgts will be sispec trained, meaning hopefully more disciplined and can teach the trainees some plt-medic related stuff that the current NSF instructors can't possibly know
2) if the new system is set up, the combined course will start after the BSLC, therefore having little disruption (current instructors spend 1-3 months as PVTs b4 SPEC II course)
however the advantage of the current system is that instructors go thru the basic course and therefore know what and how to teach the trainees.
besides, since they go thru 2 courses instead of a combined crash course, they will be more knowledgeable in medical-related areas and have more IV practice.
