I cant remember the exact timing... 6 months before u r enlisted u will go to CMPB for body checkup where they determine ur pes status... for nafa u can take it at ur school or at the designated stadiums... btw its called ippt in army... as for qualifications part im not sure abt tt... but i guess lower qualifications brothers will go for mono intake...Originally posted by James1:thnx, but u have answer my qns 1 out of 3, do u know the other rest? -

i.e. instead of reporting to Tekong and go through BMT there and then get your posting, you report to CMPB where your unit will receive you, thereafter your unit will conduct the BMT and give you training.Originally posted by James1:Mono intake? what does that means? -

for example if u get posted to Guards for BMT, u will be a guardsman after BMT, if u get posted to a Infantry unit for BMT, u will be a infantryman, if u get posted to a artillery unit for BMT, u will be a gunner and so on.
some might get posted out to do other vocation but the majority will stay with the unit.

the chance is slim i guess.. cause usually the Diploma and A level personel get to go into these command schools.. and they are all from tekong chalet before being posted out to command school(Not Mono-intake).. BUT i believe there's still a small possibility there la...

Some tips for folding smart 4:
1) turn ur number 4 to the back, you should see some thick sew lines at the sleeves leading to the shoulderblade. pull ur sleeves in until the end of the cuff (sewline) meets the shoulderblade sewline.
2) then fold ur sleeves in (the brighter camo part) until see the end of the brighter part. ensure ur sewline is in line.
3) fold again
4) pull down the cuffs.

Just a humourous observation.I was around the War Memorial Park yesterday, and it's interesting to see the progression of the distance from the sleeve to the elbow of servicemen at different times of service.
Recruits/POP PTEs..Sleeves immaculately folded, three-four fingers from the shoulder.
PTEs,probably vocationalists, five fingers from the shoulder.
Fresh 3SGs, five-six fingers from the elbow.
ORDing 3SGs, CPLs, LCPs, four fingers from the elbow!

actually for commandos at least, the vast majority are A level and diploma types. 2 intakes a year, 1 A lvl batch and 1 poly batch. in each coy there'll be a few guys with lower educational qualifications, but very few, prob around 10 plus out of an initial intake of 200. god only knows how they select them...Originally posted by Gordonator:no. because usually the people selected for mono-intake are with below A levels/diploma qualifications.

Some minor things to take note:
[*] The number 4 uniform is worn with the shirt tucked out.
Countless recruits have given instructors a laugh of their time the first time they wear the uniform.
[*] The opposite goes for your admin attire. Tuck it in if you do not wish to find yourself doing push-ups on the ground.
[*] Sometimes you find yourself doing punishment for the smallest mistake (or so you thought). You instructor is covering your ass by screwing you in public. Don't believe it when they say all instructors are .
[*] ... while other times, you still find yourself doing punishment for the smallest mistake in private. Don't worry, it is all in the training plan. It isn't anything personal. Your Orientation Officer will ensure that.
[*] Everybody was a recruit once. Your instructor would no doubt have stories of his own cock-ups. Milk them for it, and make your BMT seem more tolerable
Some useful things to take note:
[*] Facial wipes are good for removing camouflage cream from your face, especially during the rush before book-out after field camp.
[*] Missing your scheduled bus at Pasir Ris is not a huge matter: just make sure that you catch the next one scheduled for the next company. There will be some mixing of companies at SFT, enough to smoke out the fact that you were late. Heck, even instructors don't care, as long as you get back there in reasonable time.
[*] Help your platoon mates, even if you aren't aiming for a place in command school: You never know when you would need their help.
[*] For those aiming for command school: it is important that you come across as sincere, otherwise all your fruits would come to nought when your platoon mates vote you down in Survivor.
[*] For those NOT aiming for command schools: please still come across as sincere, even if you hate some particular person. I learnt it the hard way. And try not to back stab if you can help it (to those who love to play politics). It is too bloody obvious to the rest when you do that, and you will find yourself in for a huge set-up soon enough. Not to mention countless blanket-parties. -

advice to all new recruits. when u are issued with your uniforms on enlistment day (u will get 5 sets), keep 1 set with u and dont wear it for regular training and exercises for the rest of your NS life. use it for parade purposes, VIPs coming or important events whereby u must look smart. preferably one that the name tag can be seem clearly.
it is also adviced you number code all your uniforms and pants. (write name on your pants too) because if u don't do that. u might end up weraing a new, very green uniform on top and a old faded pant below. -
