Guards are not para trained. Their main rice bowl is heli rappeling. only some Guardsmen who volunteer for airborne course r airborned trained, but even so they r only trained to jump in clean fatigue. Commandos where the red backing over the airborne badge coz they r proficient in combat equipment jumps, eg. alice bag(45kg and gpmg)

rangers and SOF are part of the commando formation

CRF must be Ranger qualified, but not every Ranger is a Commando.

as such - afaik - there is no coherent formation in the guards which are able to parachute into enemy ground and fight - just the same scattering of regulars who happen to be airborne clean-fatigue trained, same with every other formation in the army. -

Just for your information, the only unit that could paradrop during an actual combat in the SAF are the Commandos, those from guards, infantry etc... went through airborne course just for the seek of the fulfillment of their confidence badge requirement. No reason why, just based on the fact that they are not trained to do it, trust me, jumping with equipment is totally different from jumping clean... can't expect them to paradrop into the warzone and fighting with their bare fists right....

hmmm.... had the impression that airborne rangers in the units outside of commandos were qualified to do combat equipment jumps.....but that was quite some time ago....hehe

i think its highly unlikely you'll see a non-commando with both an airborne patch and a ranger tab. even if you do, he probably isn't combat equipment trained - the airborne course is divided into 2 phases, clean fatigue and combat equipment. all the non-commandos will graduate from phase 1 and f.o. from there while commandos will carry on with phase 2. iirc the ndu does phase 2 as well though i can't really remember for sure. -
the last one i saw was in my PDF unit. He was a trainer. Khaki beret.

You will be surprised how many ppl there are out there with airborne and ranger qualifications that are non-commandos. Cpt XXXXX (now MAJ i should think) who was COA's SA is one example that i have met, he is a Guards Offr by the way. i stand corrected, then. i guess i underestimated the number of siao-on people around. ;-)
i still think its unlikely that they'd have trained with combat equipment though, because there is no need for them to be. afaik, the only unit able to jump and fight would be the commandos. -
they are actually rangers from the old school ......... green, green with guards backing, and red berrets...... Pasir Laba infantry schools was their playground during that era ..
