  Hey guys... if you notice, all those who are ranger-trained are also airborne qualified, even those not from the Commando formation. If I'm not wrong, there is a particular component during the ranger course that requires the trainees to carry out a mission through airborne insertion. So every ranger trainee should be airborne trained, but whether those non-commandos does combat jump, this I'm not sure ... maybe someone out there could enlighten us...

  Uh, nope. Unless things have changed recently, Airborne is not a requirement for the Ranger course. The exercises do not necessarily require airborne insertion, and alternative insertions modes can be used.

  you must have been noticing the wrong people.
  
  no such thing lah. if that was the case then ranger course would have to be at least 2-3 weeks longer, in order to put the ranger trainees through BAC. which is not the case. nor is there any pre-requisite that ranger trainees have to be BAC qualified.

  hmm seen quite a number of NDU/SOF warrent and officers with the SEAL trident badge. I do belive one of the photos in the recent PRIDE day article posted on iMINDEF did show a NDU officer wearing a SEAL badge. http://www.mindef.gov.sg/display.asp?number=2496
  
  With regards to the Ranger and Airborne discussion. its true that not all rangers will get their Airborne badge during their Ranger Course. My fren attended the Ranger course last yr did not get any airborne badge, just the coveted reb tab.

  Sorry for the wrong information guys... pls forgive my ignorance but it sure looks weird just wearing the ranger tab without any confidence badge... maybe it's just the general perception that all those who are ranger-trained are bloody garang with the hell lot of confidence badges...

  Ranger Course is a confidence course itself in SAF context..
  
  there is no Ranger Unit in SAF or the Commandos formation..

  I think if SAF lacks elite soldiers to carry out special ops, can recall all the officers and specialists with ranger tab.

  hey guys, the rangers i came across during my time in Safti all had airborne with full jump status....even for those with green berets. A different era....perhaps?

  Not really. If you've completed the Ranger course, you may as well complete the much-easier Airborne course. It's just that Airborne is not a strict requirement for Ranger.

  Cannot...because many rangers never uh ... maintain themselves.

  I doubt so... NDU divers are only awarded with the diver badge upon their completion of course...
  
  
  
  However, similar to the Commandos, regulars from NDU are given the chance to attend special overseas courses like US diver or special attachment to the Navy SEALs... thereafter, badges are awarded to them....

  Ask you pple ah .. the budweiser is only given after the candidate finished his attachment in a SEAL unit and not immediately after the BUD/S course.
  
  Does that mean our soldiers also need to stay in a SEAL unit like 6 months?
  
  Haha .. take so long to get the budweiser .. might as well go for the shorter ranger course.

  Could be an ex -SAF chap. At one time, SPF also had their recruitment talks for STAR in SAF camps. Obviously in competition for headcount with SOF. But STAR was a bit more "selective". STAR was saying that they preferred ex-commando or guardsmen. Presumably because STAR had a shorter leadtime for conversion to being an operational trooper. To save time, they were looking for fitter and better trained guys.
  
  So he could be an ex-SAF chap allowed to display his airborne wings. Or else, he was sent on a confidence course ( mountain climbing, airborne, diver etc) , which I heard can happen, during his tour in STAR.

  I believe so.And i've heard tales of those who were attached to SEAL units..rumoured to have followed them into battle as well.

  that is if just nice a mission pop up before course end. tio tao piow oso not so chun.
  
  "maybe" some join OPS during GW1 and GW2 but that is another story liao.

  BAC was open to guys in blue after STAR form not long. till now guys in blue have gone not oni BAC, some "other course" are in as well. like rappelling instructor course in CTW.

  just talk about the course on 010705 and now accident happen and SAF suspends heliborne rappelling training.
