2 more soldiers die in SAF.

2 soldiers , one a 24-year-old , died yesterday in an accident during an army exercise of the First commando battalion at Endon camp in changi.
It is believed that one of them died at the scene and the other at the SGH.
A Mindef Statement is expected. -

BTW it was a heliborne training accident involving 1 SAF regular & a foreign soldier. -

1SG Shiva s/o Mohan from the SAF Commando, and a foreign serviceman were undergoing the Rappelling Instructor Course when they fell while rappelling from the helicopter. The incident happened at 9.11 pm yesterday. The helicopter was hovering about 20 metres above ground. No other serviceman was injured.
The two servicemen were evacuated to the Sembawang Air Base medical centre at 9.23 pm. The doctors stabilised both servicemen in preparation for evacuation to the Singapore General Hospital. The medical evacuation helicopter departed the air base at 10.27 pm and reached the hospital in 7 minutes. The two servicemen were pronounced dead at about 11 pm.
Heli-rappelling training has been suspended, pending the conclusion of the investigation. All other training activities proceed as normal. The SAF is conducting a 2-day safety review of its processes and procedures.
MINDEF and the SAF extend their deepest condolences to the family of the late 1SG Shiva and will be assisting the family in their time of loss. MINDEF is conducting an investigation -

i got the impression tt deaths in SAF are not uncommon, all along.
it's just tt things have become more transparent and the media coverage has been increased only recently. -
Indeed, I have seen quite a bit of death, and I've only been in for slightly over a year. But death through accidents and misadventure is truly tragic.

22nd Jun - Pl Sgt at BMTC
29th Jun - 2WO at 3DIV Jurong Camp
13th Jul - Commandos at SBAB
food for thought.
maybe we can go to 4-day work week and rest on every Wednesday.
anyway, there is a official order sent down not to reveal the identity (including nationality) of the foreigner so insiders pls refrain from revealing it. all i can say is tat he came from an ASEAN country.

Remember last time there was this thing about having no night training on Thursdays? Shall we take up your suggestion and declare Wednesday a day of admin & fatigue work where troops stay in their barracks and do general maintenance of stores? There will be strictly no outfield on Wednesdays as a result.
The poor guy from an Asean member state died? RBLF or RTAF are going to miss him dearly. -

True. The PS are NSFs.
