  think those are different lah...those generals and colonels...
  
  like they signed up as regular for 1st one or two contracts, like for 6-9 years, which they obtained till LTC etc...then subsequently never continued contract due to better jobs prospects found etc...so they ORDed...
  
  then when they do reservists, they maintain the rank of LTC and after 3-5 ICTs may get promoted to COL before they RODed...
  
  think of those specialists which signed on till 1SG or SSG, then think ARMY no prospects or never promote them so they go for other jobs, when they come back for ICT, they may get SSG (NS) or 2WO(NS)...

  What about those who were not regular before... Possible for them to reach Maj at what age as reservist?

  MAJ (DR) at the age of 40?If your BCS and Med battalion is damn efficient.Or perhaps if you've gone for overseas medical support missions.
  
  For normal officers, if you are arrowed for CTC, you might get your CPT(NS) but even now, they might just let LTA(NS)s be OCs and CPT(NS) be CO/S3.So guess the promotion would not be very fast.It's more of your appointments moving up faster than your rank.
  
  For us specs..we may ROD realistically as 1SG or SSG.Depending how "garang" you are during ICT.
