Service Ribbon are the colourful pieces that we often see on top of the left pockets on regulars' No. 3 uniform...Originally posted by hotdoggie:How may types do we have in saf?
u gotta be joking...Originally posted by Prestroz:I dun think there are different types... just that it reflects on your service time in the SAF and some medals that you have been awarded...
The longer the service ribbon = Longer years of service
The amount of "Pips" on the ribbon = The amount of medal you have
Overall, It's like a condensed medals...![]()

oversea ones are in blue.Originally posted by kuekj:If i not wrong, some service ribbons are from overseas. Me a medic trainee now, often see my lecturers, the warrant officers and very experienced officers, wearing this. They told us during the lecture that they attended an advanced Paramedic course at Canada and this was presented to them.

Sorry guys for the wrong information... I was told by someone about this though...Originally posted by hmsg:u gotta be joking...
there ARE different types... 1 full row is for 3 different types of medals... like 12 yrs, 6 yrs, commendation, efficiency, overseas, tsunami, etc...
longer ribbon does not neccesary reflect longer years in service. that is reflected by the pip most commonly by 1 pip on the brown ribbon with 3 white stripes = 23 yrs of service, without pip is 12 yrs... that also includes good conduct and long service award....
pips on ribbons is NOT the amount of medal u have...![]()
