The unit cultre in Cdo is alittle different, men and officers work together for common objective. We are working in form of team. Therefore, very often, we dun salute, buit we pay due respect to their rank.
Must understand this point, your platoon mate started BMT together with you, but when their are back from OCS course, it is like old friends liao. Very different from infantry unit deployment.
I agreed that each unit culture is different. In my unit, we don't salute our officers as well. We gave them respect when and where it is due. Saluting of any officers are performed during guard duty, eg. when the CO and staff officers coming through the gate or during parade. At company line, we don't salute our officers at all. It is not that we don't respect their rank, but rather we see them as a fellow trooper after going through the same trade course and so we treat them like a buddy. All these, bearing in mind that my unit is an infantry unit. Hence while the unit are different, this form of respect given to the officer is rather similar and from my own experience, I know it is not only prevalent in CDO unit only. Some of our officers are actually specialists who did well in the trade course who went on the OCS for conversion and came back as our PCs. So the general statement of "different from infantry unit deployment" probably does not hold water here.
