actually no need to wash helmet. so that when a lot of helmets got mixed up together, u can easily identify which 1 is yours simply by the smell.

haha, normally ppl will pick those that are less smelly... so i label my helmet...

My helmet 12 yrs didnt wash still smell good.....

mine got a blue tape with f4/S3/B8 written on it, and yes it smells, but not that bad.

Wash it like you would do your clothes, then sun it. Of course minus the washing machine.

not sure about the new helmets which has the new netted head support. the previous version of helmets have leather strips as head support. i tried washing my helmet once using the methods described here. after drying, the leather shrunk and became so hard! i had headaches for quite some time immediately after the washing, after wearing my helmet. had to loosen the strips and adapt to it!

my company was the last in the unit to be issued helmets with the old green fabric straps. i found it easier to just change the straps (sold at the emart) than to wash it. -
talking about the straps, i think the old straps still better than the new one.
I remember last time the material very good, abit thick but cottonly and it uses the metal thing to tighten, and also easier to take out and wash and put back.
now the new one, thinner strap but harder and uses plastic thing that locks the strap...also confusing when putting back the strap after washing.

No need hot water lah. Just some soup, water and a good scrub with a brush or tooth brush. Make sure you sun it, then no more smell.

I used to use the fire hose, which is near the bunks to wash it with dettol.
Then sun it and make sure you dun wear it when it damp.
But the sun will make the leathery part, shrink, and it could be F up wearing it. -
