What are some serious mistake you have made in NS?

Before going to sleep, we would hook our rifles to our waists using our belts. In addition, we would use our toggle ropes to tie the carrying handle to one of our wrists.
We would then wear our Gore-Tex jackets over everything.... the rifle would be hidden under the jacket.
In addition, we slept in pairs with the rifles positioned in between the two of us. The Gore-Tex jackets are big enough to allow us to do that.
These precautions weren't foolproof... but anyone wanting to steal our rifles would have a hell of a time trying to do so without alerting us. -

When was that news article published? Anyway, he deserved in. A gentleman, especially gentleman in uniform would never behave in such a way. Colonel some more... On a serious note, its not recommended. There are other ways to secure your rifle.
but in an actual operational environment, it is equally unrealistic to expect enemies to come around to try to steal weapons.
so since the instructors are being unrealistic by trying to do that, we have to respond in unrealistic manners to protect ourselves.
the need to drive across the importance of securing one's weapon is important, but shouldnt be taken to extremes, which, in alot of cases, is happening. -
