to some extend... BMT phase is somewhat a joke now...
well... i don't wish to elaborate much.. but in general.... it's like this...
1. due to safety concerns... much training have been toned down... components of the 7 day field camp and held OUTSIDE the 7 day time frame.
2. no more section based training during field camp.
3. group training is a 1.5 day affair.
4. non-tact break for 1/2 day.
5. no need to pass ippt, range and IFC anymore to pass BMT.
6. you can ATT B all the way in BMT and still no need to recourse.
7. only way to recourse is like you OOT (OOC), early in the course. ppl who OOT like in 2nd half of BMT are given the discretion.
well.. i have a feeling people is going to flame me for this post... but really... i personally witness how BMT have changed.... and it's now very frustrating to conduct BMT...
recruits who do not put in effort will not differ much from those who does. yes, they don't go Command schools, but you think they care?
and those recruits who does care would voice out the unfairness in the effort they put in just to differ....... so how am i, as their superiors, supposed to answer them? -
tell them what they do in NS is a reflection of their character and work ethics ... would an employer like someone who chao gengs all the time in NS ? ... they would probably bring the same selfish ethic to work won't they ....Originally posted by Ponders:to some extend... but everyone who've worn no.4 should know, there are always those pricks who try to get out of everything and anything. what i'm trying to say is you don't have to be so garang and collect as many stripes or bars as you can, but do what you have to do and don't shrink from it ... sometimes it's bloody ridiculous, have you seen leg injuries downgrades going for atheletics ? ... now it's not a case of I suffer so i want others to suffer the same as me ... i've served my time, did what i have to do and ORD liao, but thinking back to a few characters back then still pisses me off ..... they are certainly people whom i'll never employ, no matter how qualified, because i know they will always be looking for an easy way out ... and never put in a hundred percent. -

their attitude and mindset are of a bo chup, couldn't care less type. they seems less motivated. i believe the new BMT system is to be blamed. with the system so slack now, how are commanders able to bring out the best in them? to overcome and excel in the things they do?
they don't care whether they go command schools or not. if these bunch of unmotivated rercuits were to be selected for command school, do u think they will be able to instruct trainees with motivation and dedication after they become instructors?

people who are self fish, self centred, who think only about themselves, afraid to come out of their comfort zone and unable to take setbacks in life are usually the ones who thinks NS is a joke or a waste of time.
it's all boils down to your mindset and maturity it's not a waste of time if u don't think of it as a waste of time or even a joke. why not think of it as doing something meaningful? it's your duty afterall as citizen to go through this phase in life. millions of people have gone through it, why can't u? what make u so special?
come on, 2 years of NS is nothing, it'll go by in a brink of an eye. even less if u minus all the leave, off, MC, public holidays etc. now we even got the 5 days working week system, what more can u ask for? the NSFs in the past don't even get to enjoy this privilege. -
