Different types of snipers

  I have seen this many times already, some snipers that follow a platoon is not clad in a ghille suit at all(Saw this typically in U.S Armed forces pics) and they are not fighting in an urban area, some solo sniper teams as well and not an urban area also.Why?

  Doubt they are snipers,those following platoons could possibly be designated marksmen.Often equipped with a higher powered scope on the standard rifle.

  All depends on the mission requirement. That ghillie suit's a real bother - why wear it if you don't have to?

  No one will wear the ghillie suit in MOUT.

  There is not really different type of snipers ! That is alway the wrong conception of most people that someone with a scope rifle and train to shoot is call sniper.
  
  For US arm force they have this new concept call - Squad Markman. He is usually the better shot and send for special shoot training and equip with a better M4 which is customized with better barrel and trigger with scope to take out target of further range and quick take out of target when point out by the squad. Yes he is train to be a markman, with better shooting training.
  
  Next come the police type of markman which use sniper rifle to take out the bad guys. Usually they don't hide, because the scene is control by police, they just shoot and very good shooter, but that usually a lot of professional still consider them markman only.
  
  So what then make a sniper, someone not only to train to shoot at great distance and accurate, but he is a master of movement, camoflush, observation. His art is more then shooting, because shooting is just a small part of his job, his most difficult one is how to get in and out unseen to take the shot.

  they are the guys with the scopes on their M-16S1 .... dunno about the situation now that the SAF has transitioned to the SAR 21 ... anyone know anything about this ? ...

  K... as of now... the section marksman still carry m-16 with scope. They are talks that they want to replace all sar 21 to 3-x scope... but i don't see it happening

  police snipers are also not shoot-to-kill unless ordered to. their primary objective is to scope out the criminals' hideout & ensure safety of hostages (if any). this is because to a police officer, saving lives is much more important than taking them.

  Why wear a ghillie suit if you don't have to? Also, in some situations, snipers can tag along during infiltration. Wearing a ghillie suit would only make them tempting targets. They can always bring the suit along.
