Black Boots, Black Rifles

UP till todae, i am stil pondering, if we go to war wearing those "Topic" there is no concealment at all. Enemies can see us easily.
Why they dun use brown green black boots and rifles. ?_? -
I think that black matches with dark green, so it is still hard for the enemy to spot us. But there's one problem: shiny boots
No wonder nowadays it is not compulsory to polish your boots till it shine!
So, never shine your boots . Just darken it will do, for your own safety should there be war!

If you ever have gone out to the field with black boots and black rifles, you'll realize that it's not all that easy to spot.

had this game during NCC training on cover and concealment... shine and colour were most important... hid behind bush 2m high still can be found

Cover and concealment is never enough for hiding. Certain factors need to be considered such as field discipline eg. noise discipline. cover and concealment is just to lower your chances of getting hit/spotted... not 100% invisible.
but at close range, all these doesn't matter since close range its more about daring to shoot with enough power to pin enemy down and your comrades trust you enough to keep them pinned while they fight forward.
while fighting forward.. your boots will usually be covered by vegetation, your black rifle shouldn't matter as people who spot it will not focus on your rifle but trying to get themselves covered from bullets flying overhead. -

though pple always say "in case in case"...but Singapore going to war is definitely impossible in the next 10 years. maybe going for humanitarian aid, rather. -

Wah lao... NCC... I feel old. Much different when you are in the army lah.
take cover a time or two, fire and movement, actually bash thru jungle a bit, and you'll find that ur boots definitely not so shiny (which you shouldn't be shining in the 1st place) anymore.
Actually I haven't seen a nice shiny black rifle except for the time when we drew NDP weopons for the NDP itself. -

Not exactly true,the future of combat lies in the urban built up areas. where the enemy may be fighting right in the room next to you. In this day and age, it still takes boots on the ground to be declared the victor of the war.

that's not really true..It's a common misconception that infantry is last..The bridging units are still infantry units..u need to secure the landsite for the armour to go forward right? Anyway, if you go bashing in the jungle..ur boots tend to become shiny..why? Stupid vegetation sure got moisture wet ur boots.making them look more shiny than normal -
Which country you in? Even in Iraq, the US military had to send the infantry in to clear the houses. Next in the event of war, both sides will leave their bases/camps to go to an undisclosed FUP..so the Air force can bomb all the bases, but do you think all the soldiers will still be there and waiting there for you to kill them? (Remember that SG will only fight if provoked..so naturally for us to go bomb them means they are in the state of preparing for war)
Arty can strike the bases too, but you sure it can hit the soldiers who are not there? You also need a FO to go forward to direct the firing for better accuracy..It's not so simple as just all the big guns shoot down and infantry come along to plant flag..It's a very wrong mentality..
If so, we can just have about 1-2 Bdes to go plant the flag..and all go through commando training..
There's a reason why there are so many infantry rifleman afterall.. -

of cos there are some people/ enemy hiding lah...goondo.....if in the old days the infantry would go in first b4 the air force and other forces gone in right but now most in fact all the war are won by more superior air power.....u have to agree that US lost Vietnam becos they think their infantry, marine and other land force are more superior.Originally posted by insouciant:U shd tell that to the infantry that is going house to house in Iraq now.

And Singapore cannot afford to just blindly bomb..The enemy is so much bigger than us with many more places to hide..Our intel may not be enough to know where they will head to for their operations..and it is definitely not their current camps/bases, just as wat Singapore does..
Stop thinking that Infantry is just a plant flag force..Infantry will have to do attacks and not on small wounded soldiers alright? -
Not quite sure who the goondo is. The US military is NOT the way everyone else fights. No one is denying it would be great to have air soften up the approaches. As a grunt, the more the merrier I say.
