Am i suitable for commando vocation?

Hi i just went for medical checkup 2 mths ago and i obtained a Pes A. I just want to say out the truth,not to really show off or what pls understand k?
I am a Chinese with perfect eyesight,above average physique and perfect score for napfa test, besides i am an A level student... Do all these physical and medical conditions of mine fit the criteria for commando vocation? I got a few friends of mine who do not have perfect eyesight or even not physically fit but they were called for commando vocation assessment,unlike me til now i had not receive a single letter from mindef whereas majority of my friends had already received letters from air force , NDU or commando... As for the computer test taken during medical checkup,i really took it seriously 
But why is it that i am still not call for any interview?? being a commando has been my dream ever since from primary school,i always believes that every guy who is physically and medically fit should go all out in protecting Singapore and i just want to play a more significant role in defending Sinapore... I will be really saddened 
if mindef does not fully utilise my potential and stop me from acheiving what i have always been working for...Hope you guys will provide me with some valuable informations ... Thanks a millions!!

since u so want to go commando, when u go bmt, keep telling your commanders u wan go commando... hving physique is not enuff... u must hv the mental power oso la...

you do not need to be a commando to play a significant role in the defense of the country. just by doing your best during your stint, regardless of what you eventually do, you will be doing that.
and if you really seriously wish to be a commando, why not consider signing on? -
i did consider the choice of signing on but my parents arent really supportive of it...heard from my friends that central manpower is quite screwed up, thats the issue i am worried of...hey do they favour the request of any regulars regarding change of vocation?

but if your basis is that CMPB is quite screwed up, whatever we tell you here is not going to help right? in fact nothing else other than you getting into the cdos will help.
as for your third question, i guess they do, but with good justifications. but you are not a regular yet, so it doesnt apply to you? -

So ppl... asking seriously...its impossible for me to get into commando vocation if i am not selected for commando mono intake? i dun see the reason why they din select me...is there still a chance i receive a letter from them calling me for interview cos it has just been two months since i went for the medical checkup...

but i heard from my friends that their male cousins or brothers managed to get into commando vocation after their bmt ...they were not selected for mono intake in the first place...even though some of them were not posted to commandos,they managed to get in through appealing...

quite true , my fren went into CDO after BMT after ITD in Tekong but not thru choice.
Do you have fren who are CDO , actually not so glamorous at least during my time. as a CDO you can expect more weekends (continual) burnt, more shiong trg etc may not worth it.
actually u dun have to be CDO to contribute, maybe u shortlist for police SOC as a PI leh
Armour, BRC ,scout, Guards are other elite forces -
but i really want to be a commando no matter how tough....its something if i really get in..i sure put in my best...hey if they were to post me to other elite vocations,can i appeal for commando? if can how high is the chance? provided those physical and medical conditions of mine...

then sign on to be a SOF...heard many people say they are highly paid but mei ming hua..dun know its true or not...anyway..now waiting for the letter to go for some special tests also..

you mean u are waiting for interview letter too? approximately how long must a person waits right after his med checkup before they got letter calling them for commando interview?

Sign on SOF? No never think until that far...think its impossible also...never go through ns training and sign on as SOF...where got this kind of thing??? anyway SOF 2.4km timing is hell fast...8mins 30 secs haha i still have to reduce my current 2.4km timing by 30 secs...but sian during the napfa test held in my sch,i sort of injured my ankle while doing standing broad jump...luckily ran 10 mins for 2.4km still A haha but recalling the pain i experienced during that run on that fateful day really freak me out man...

Thanks a millions!! ... your physical fitness and educational level doesn't necessary qualify you for commandos... being a commando means you must possess a higher IQ, calm and analyatical mind, the ability to think on your feet and of course certain psychomotor skills... maybe the vocational test at CMPB proved that you might not fit the critiera 
I too received the VA with the commandos earlier on, and I dun think there would be another vocational assignment for CDOs... my fren received the VA in august while I received it in september... given the fact that the posting order would be around late sep to mid oct, it would be unlikely that there would be another VA...
It is unlikely that you'll join the CDOs from BMT or during command schools as all cdos are straight from their mono-intake... even cdos officer at OCS also join after their training after BMT and BCT for Pro term... The only chance that you may cross over to CDOs may be signing on, but bear in mind their stringent crossover requirement, it's not as easy as the VA when they select you... only a small percentage made it each time... my advice would be, take it easy and be happy... view it as a bonus, it'll be great if you have it but it's also fine if you dun... you can try hard for other alternatives... good luck!! -

Huh??!! NAPFA test?? have you took it in school?? the VA letter should have "Further Reporting Order" typed on it... it should also say you're required to go for vocational assignment...Originally posted by Paradise and hell:Hey guys!!! dunno leh...they wrote further vocational assignment...must go pasir ris there...ya i took it in school before but my friends told me they are just some physical exercise? dunno so confused about it...

anyway if in doubt, don't hesitate to give them a call. there should be a number on the letter which u can call. -

it's not even a month since i went for it... I doubt they've changed it... btw, my friend also received some "further something..." letter, together with his letter for medical checkup, but thats not for commandos or diver.... -
What's all this about going from Tekong to CDO? AFAIK, CDO has not changed its mono-intake policy. Bottom line is that for NSFs, if you don't do your BMT with CDO, forget it - there's no entering after BMT, OCS or any other course. However, if you're a regular, you can be posted to CDO if the conditions are right.
As for the selection criteria, I'll say it again - after 15 years, I've yet to come across a feasible explanation of how they came to select a bum like me.
If you get it, you get it. Otherwise, don't worry about it - life's obviously got better plans for you.
