If u decide to go NS, remember, its siAn. Not siEn. Sian and sien (sien char boh) is quite different.Originally posted by hornriper:Hey guys, just wish to get some advice from anyone of you had been in the army. Know of a few fellows in this situation.Thrown into a totally alien culture...one was a Russian.Originally posted by Ponders:Sometimes i don't understand the Army/Govt.....
2nd Generation PR must serve NS because they enjoyed the economic benefits of what singapore have offered.
that's the official reason.... but take this for example.....
a father who is highly qualified is granted PR and brought his family to Singapore, his son so happens to be 18. So within 5-6 months on arriving singapore, he is serving the army.
so what economic benefits did he enjoy?
It's fair enough reason for a 2nd gen PR who lived most of their lives in SIngpaore..... but those dragged into army after 5-6 mths in singapore? that's torture.
in my NSF, 4 of my men are in such situation and i feel sad for them. they dunno much about singapore, about the people and the singlish... and they are dragged into the army.
next thing i don't understand.... my platoon... every section have 2-3 PRs. And i'm talking about an active battalion. how do you expect to stay around when war arise?
If you ask me honestly... my real honest opinion...Originally posted by hornriper:wah, seems like i got a lot of bad advice and bad comment about NS...i even had asked many of my exclassmates who serving NS, they scold me not even to think about going into so call 'hell' for pest A fren, while my pest B,C frens told me is rather boring and wasting time especially those sergeant very niao
....Jus wondering, what if Pest A pest B go into OCS or suspet(am i correct?), will be more interesting?? none of my fren went into these units because they too weak hahahah...my aim is to go into these xiong units, maybe sounds a bit crazy but, if serve army nvr go to professional units, will waste the NS time. wat u guys think?
First of all, are you a 2nd generation PR? If you are, I think you will need to serve NS in sg if i'm not wrong (can't remember if its 2nd or 3rd generation's PR)Originally posted by hornriper:Hey guys, just wish to get some advice from anyone of you had been in the army. Good of you to note the distinction between the system and the people .....Originally posted by Ponders:If you ask me honestly... my real honest opinion...
ARMY is a very good organisation with a very developed set of procedures, rules and system.
if functioning properly, it can be a great place for you to commit yourself to....
however, it is people in the army that makes your work difficult...
older regulars do not buy new ideas.
newer regulars do not know new system
siao on NSFs spoil market
bo chup NSF simply bo chup.
wayang NSFs makes things worse.
so we are an army that advances slowly even thought the system in place could make it efficent.
its hard for me to illustrate now... but if you go thru the system... you will know what i mean... especially if you have a unerasonable and more senior boss.
well... in my opinion.... no harm to go for NS.Originally posted by hornriper:eerr, so whaTever it means, its still not advisable to go NS right? hhmm if only NS is for 1 yrs, then i will surely go try and experience on the hard work. siennzz, why army pay so little, why army so boring, bla bla bla....Oh yah, BTW, can i go check for my pest but not to serve army?
no... it is combat... an active combat infantry battalion.Originally posted by crazy monkey:so many ? last time my unit hardly any. you from support side issit ?![]()
