as an ADF officer u need to hold the post of PC in a unit first b4 applying to be a PC in ADF...Originally posted by nomood:uh, they can??? that's, uh, new to me. heh
not even ADF have o level officers...
ADF was, to me, the epitome of low education in the saf, since most of the people there signed up for the money. it's hard to deny that it pays pretty damn well for a job where a person's highest qualification may be simply PSLE.Originally posted by Rockhound:as an ADF officer u need to hold the post of PC in a unit first b4 applying to be a PC in ADF...
kinda rare to see an o level officer....my fren was one in cdo.....
this applies onli for adf officers....they gotta spend a PC tour in unit b4 applying PC in ADF...same goes to being an OC in the ADFOriginally posted by nomood:ADF was, to me, the epitome of low education in the saf, since most of the people there signed up for the money. it's hard to deny that it pays pretty damn well for a job where a person's highest qualification may be simply PSLE.
*sigh* Yes, it was embarrassing. When I was there, fudging logistics paperwork was accepted because it was just bureaucratic bullsh!t, but cheating on things like IPPT and shooting were well beyond the pale because missions depended on those. As can be seen from the relaxed selection criteria, standards have unfortunately fallen over the past decade, but hopefully the cheating incident has provided the impetus to bring them back up.Originally posted by nomood:commandos, seems to ring a bell. are you talking about the same unit that got caught cheating in IPPT for 2003(or 2002, can't remember), and henced missed out on the best unit? god knows how long they've been cheating for.
Nice. not even a small unit like mine was allowed to cheat in ippt. sheesh... i guess it does get stressful trying to mantain a playground like hendon.
ya, that's what i thought. any idea with regards to how they're rising in rank? or their pay scale?Originally posted by Gedanken:BTW, the last two O-level regulars in the SAF to have been commissioned as officers were Commandos, back in 1992, and they're both exceptional soldiers.
Don't know if the place has changed of late, but back when I was at Hendon toilet paper counted for nothing.Originally posted by nomood:ya, that's what i thought. any idea with regards to how they're rising in rank? or their pay scale?
I'm not against people with low education levels holding officer posts, since one could still be an exceptional soldier without proper education. but it does pose the age of problem of trying to get others to rid themselves of the social stigma associated.
i mean, can you imagine the kind of gossip that would go on if they made a psle grad commander of hendon camp?
as a comparison, even before my 2nd oc came in we were already comparing how slowly he rose compared to our 1st LSA OC, how he was passed up for tours etc etc... wouldn't have been nice at all if he heard what was going on but seriously, you can't stop these things from propagating.
