well ... yes of course ... you can always do that .... and think of creative ways to secure and silence the prisoners without having to kill them ...... i can introduce a hundred other variables and considerations ... like it you can't spare a man etc .....
the whole point of this thinking exercise is to introduce to you the kind of dilemma that one might face ..... and force you to examine the ethical and moral issues involved ... it is not about how creative you can be to skirt making such a decision ...
so ...
let's keep it simple:
you cannot fail on this mission, (let's just say, hypothetically, not eliminating a certain battery of MLRS would mean massive civllian casualties .... your fellow singaporeans, friends, loved ones ... all under the mercy of an indiscriminate rocket barrage ), at the same time ... can you kill, or order the killing of a patrol of enemy soldiers who has surrendered to you, in cold blood ? ... they cannot be secured and transported to the rear .... as you yourself are operating behind enemy lines, nor can you spare even a man to guard them, too risky for the mission, plus you're already undermanned for the mission. nor can you allow them to go and compromise the mission ....
now soldier .... to kill or not to kill .... if these are the only options open to you .... what would you do ? .... -
