I reservist in Air Force leh.. when i goto the emart in my base (tengah) i dun see any of this black bag leh... are the items now issued according to the combat arm of the SAF?? I mean, air force people no need the black ali baba bag meh?? other accessories avail in army emart here also dun hv...

Can i goto other emarts to buy these stuff i cannot get in my airbase? I scared when they scan my id card, i kena rejected and banned fr buying.. bec my vocation diff fr others...

i prefer carrying it. if you roll it around too much on tarmac, the plastic protection will tear.

Goretex boots... dun even get me started on it. Go for 1 bloody field ex and the stupid seams tear.

Definitely old ali baba bag more garang and definitely more durable. I remember dragging it, dropping, throwing it around and it never once tore! All thru NS, 4 overseas trips and god knows how much abuse, it stood the test of time.
But I'll be the first to admit that more than once I wished the heavens there was an easier way to carry that load.
But ya, pulling the new bag thru the airport would make me feel more like an air stewardess than a soldier. -

Anyway, the old ali baba bag was indeed highly durable and very resistant to damage. It's been thrown about, dragged, punched, used as a pillow and so on... and there doesn't seem to be any damage except for a scratched exterior.
My only major grouse about it: only one small opening at the top. A major pain in the unmentionables if you have to take out some important stuff lying right at the bottom of the bag.
