Soaking no.4 in insect repellent when going outfield.

saw in the papers a few weks ago that SAF is making all soldiers going outfield for exercise to soak their no.4 in insect repellent so as to fight dengue mosquitos.
what's is your take on this?

As my suggestion in the story thread:-
Wrap urself in Mosqito Netting. -
no smell one lah..pls...only abit of medicated smell..its not those insect repellent u found on beach rd or army shop..
fyi...all new no 4 u bought from emart are soak wif the same repellent...
4 washes n u have to resoak it again.. -
today just soaked.
it stinks. smells like disinfectant.
some people felt a prickly pain when they came in contact with it, others, like me, felt nothing. -

now other than sweat, mud and rain water, we got one more insect repellent adding on to the smell.

quite cool, not sure about how effective it is though.
You know how spraying OFF on your uniform results in a distributed spray pattern? i've seen mosquitoes land on it, poke around, and literally walk (or crawl) 2mm away to another bit where it was empty.
and quite literally as soon as OFF dries up it becomes quite ineffective.
citronella patches don't work btw. Neither do those high frequency stuff... I've personally found mosquito coil to work best for me. Would always light up 2-3 per pax at a time for the whole team around, smoking out the whole place.

my take? i think it's quite an okay idea. soaked mine a few weeks back. no smell whatsoever. well, some might smell a faint repellent smell la but it's not obvious. will last up to about 4 washes, before we have to soak it again.
i don't know bout you guys but my oc said that the chances of getting dengue in tekong is less likely. what is more likely is malaria, and i suppose all of you know about the malaria pills that we're ordered to take. -

i remember back in tekong we must sign a agreement form or something that we must eat our malaria every week. LOL, before POP the sergeants give all of us 3 pills to take for the next 3 weeks after POP.

The mosquitoes at Tekong have armour-piercing needles... they can punch their needles through your No.4.
