Singapore waters visibility is approximately 5m on a good day, 2m on a bad day but usually around 3m. + singapore water is DAMN dirty, 1 reason why singapore divers hardly ever dive around singapore is because of equipment maintainence.
Anyway 3m pretty damn low. If the water is clear and clean they were probably diving elsewhere.
As for jellyfish stings, don't worry it's common to get stung every now and then. Anyway you'll be wearing a full suit, so @ very least you a) have minimal protection (recommended guidelines are 5mm min. protection against jellyfish in aust, lesser is probably ok as well...) agaiinst jelly fish stings + protected from scratches from rocks. Lethal Jellyfishes are not common around singapore waters...
Don't worry so much. just enjoy yourself in NDU, but very importantly, take care!

I got stung by jellyfish before! That was during my OBS course and i can tell you it is pretty painful
i thought it was a plastic bag so i used my hand trying to lift it up , god knows it was a jellyfish!! -
Jellyfish sting must wash with plenty of vinegar... then if swell must see MO

the first aid to jellyfish sting is acutally peeing onto the stung spot. at least that's wad was taught in NDU..
somehow don't like it being called "Team Building Week" simply no impact. =p

Surviving thru' Class II
1) start running. If ur timing for 2.4k is 9min 14, u are sure to be last few. get the point?
2) If u have fear of heights, conquer it. HMS terror is waiting for u...
3) Always think of others b4 youself. That way u pass hellweek easier. don't let your buddies down. 1 person in the boat skive, the rest will suffer. (i'm talking abt extended arm carry if u guys noe wad i'm talking about.)
4) try not to fall sick.
5) don't skive. Have integrity.

I'm sorry to say that if u r expecting an easy time in Class II, then u r wrong.
Class II is no easy course.
I believe that CDO course if freaking tough. but we have a saying in NDU, every diver can be a commando, but not every commando can be a diver.
To start it off, Commando don't have perfect vision requirement. NDU medical requirement is definitely much higher than CDO. That's why they can take in a bigger cohort.
why discuss abt the diving when he haven't even experience Hellweek? let the boy go thru' hellweek first.
I agree with caligu. it will be the worst 5 days of ur life. esp on the 1st 2nd day. but i really enjoyed tekaning the trainees during their hellweek! hahaha saddistic man.
by the way, who's paradise and hell?? -

no.. but the team to conduct hellweek is from all dept. it's a big thing in NDU. the instructors in divesch alone cannot cope w 5 days non stop. so ppl from other depts help out too. so my batch took 20th hellweek.

u are a cut above the rest of the sporean males at 18 years old.
Sporting a 8mins for 2.4km only needs a certain amount of hard work.
That i would give it to the CDO.
To be a DIVER,
u have to be also a cut above the rest of the sporean male,
sporting a 8min for 2.4km is nothing new in NDU,
plus the fact that you have to survive the infamous "HELLWEEK",
which makes NDU the only place in SAF,
to get all you NSFs to go through HELL in a WEEK,
make you run as fast as the CDO if not faster (as proven in the annual SAF 50Km Race),
and best of all.........................
to make you go where no CDO (NSF) are capable of going.........
which is the murky depths of spore waters.
This, i give it to the young,abled and dedicated men of NDU.

Running 2.4 km is just purely fitness , not much of endurance testing.
In wartime , you depend more on endurance rather then of fitness.
Food for thought:
The better soldier is someone who can fight for 8 minutes longer rather then to run and complete a 2.4 km run inside enemy ground . -

How to become officer in NDU?
Do the NDU officers go through the naval midshipman course before going through the diving course, HELL week in NDU? -
To be an NDU officer, first must pass NDU Class II Diver course. must also get a good course rating. then get selected for OCS. Yes hellwk during class II course definitely must go through wan, specs officers alike.Originally posted by t89z:How to become officer in NDU?

yes.. or go BMTC tekong. post to OCS. post to NDU be your batch boy's PC during their BMT and then join them for Class II course. then u'll be a trainee not a PC.
when posted to OCS, you might not be MIDS, you maybe army officer. -

hmmm... im due respect for ndu.
personally im from cdo, sometimes u juz cant compare coz the jobscope is different. -
actually i feel that there really is nothing to compare. job scope's just different..
actually the route i just mentioned abt going to BMTC then to OCS then to NDU shld be easier.
BMTC to OCS is definitely easier than from NDU to OCS loh.. think abt it... cos standards are different.
then wad i heard from my PC who eventually was my batch boy is that when they pass out from OCS those who din wear specs were told to go for some chkup. and from they they pick a few to NDU loh.
