new one side pocket almost same height as main compartmentOriginally posted by lwflee:Well, I dunno what you mean by the old field pack. When i was in, the field pack i used was the one whose side pouches were a perfect fit for 1x 24 hour combat ration, unopened. Its the one made of a thin nylon-like material (maybe it is nylon) and which is sealed with 2 x velcro flaps, followed by a cover that was basically 2 x nylon sheets with a velcro opening to allow you to store things like maps, etc in the cover itself.
Hope i made my self clear. The new one is the one that looks like one of those tall hiking bags you see in the shops?
last time six pack item can taped and squeezed until very small now SAF requirement is they must be loosely pack, just put in ziplop bag only.Originally posted by lwflee:Ok i got it now. So theres the old one, then there's the current one which is basically a modification of the old one, the enlargement of the side pockets being one of the modifications. Lastly there's the one currently being tested.
So Re the current Field pack, you can definately squeexe the items in since generations of others have done so with the old field pack. But the basic design of the field pack is still imo flawed since it is too small to beign with.
i thought now still the same...its better to compress everything and add in miscellanous items that are important...Originally posted by crazy monkey:last time six pack item can taped and squeezed until very small now SAF requirement is they must be loosely pack, just put in ziplop bag only.![]()
very true. i find that the way they teach us to pack the stuffs into the field pack is very impractical. it's almost impossible to take the bottom thing out without taking everything out so to speak.Originally posted by lwflee:No it isn't. That method of packing is only practical when you do not intend to use the items inside the packs, since once you open the packs, it is unlikely you will be able to repack the things in the field.
