I take it the new one is larger then? I remember some one posting some pics of the new field pack a while ago. Any more recent pics?

The current standard full packs are the same as those from years ago. Difference is that the side pockets are larger, plus some very minor changes.
However - there is another new fullpack on test together with the new load bearing vest equipment. Currently in use by selected units only. -
Ok i got it now. So theres the old one, then there's the current one which is basically a modification of the old one, the enlargement of the side pockets being one of the modifications. Lastly there's the one currently being tested.
So Re the current Field pack, you can definately squeexe the items in since generations of others have done so with the old field pack. But the basic design of the field pack is still imo flawed since it is too small to beign with. -

No it isn't. That method of packing is only practical when you do not intend to use the items inside the packs, since once you open the packs, it is unlikely you will be able to repack the things in the field. Further, packing in that manner compromises the waterproofing of the ziplock bags since the bags might be torn from too much squeezing, or the zip might not work properly. So basically that method of packing is impractical. It is no more than wayang.
I'm glad someone realized that and is taking steps to change the situation. HOwever, i think they really need to abvandon the current fieldpack and design one from scratch. Don't waste money on such dumb things like new PT singlets and shorts etc. -
Heard that some students (from poly? can't remember exactly) had a new (side-loading? can't remember exactly too
) field pack design way back 2-3 years ago... it was in the papers iirc. I suppose this design is "still being evaluated" by DSTA.

very true. i find that the way they teach us to pack the stuffs into the field pack is very impractical. it's almost impossible to take the bottom thing out without taking everything out so to speak.Originally posted by lwflee:No it isn't.
