But that time, i heard my batch was the last one to use 84mm. (Which is in 1997 )Originally posted by Fatum:84 and the matador are two totally different classes of weapons ...
don't think the 84 will be phased out in favour of the matodor ...
one is a support weapon ... the other is a company issue light anti tank/anti structure weapon ....
very different range too ....
doesn't make sense .....
there were still 84s in the armskote when i became a botak (2000) ...Originally posted by Shigemichi Take:But that time, i heard my batch was the last one to use 84mm. (Which is in 1997 )
My OC was saying that the weapon is gonna phased out.
I wonder what's the purpose of maintaining the 84mm since support Coy has got ATGM..

i dunno, it doesn't really make much sense to me ... you got a huge gap between LAWs and ATGMs ... in range, armour piercing capability etc ... remember that the 84 can fire multiple types of warheads, which makes it very flexible ... what about intermediate range targets ... soft-skin vehicles from 400m out to 700m ? ... lobbing an ATGM everything a truck comes into view may be a very expensive exercise bro ... ATGMs can't target troop concentrations too ... the was an 84 can ....
it's not a good idea to phase that out methinks .....
if we really are ... i can only imagine that it's because our license to produce the ammunition has expired ...
Oh ya. I remembered the HE has got the so called timer which you can actually set for airburst. But in this modern times, carry the 84 can be quite a hassle if you're going thru thick vegetations. Especially for Brunei terrain.
still beats carrying an ATGM guidance unit and missile pods eh .....Originally posted by Shigemichi Take:
The only thing i like bout 84 mm section is that during the chionging part.Originally posted by Fatum:still beats carrying an ATGM guidance unit and missile pods eh .....
ask any poor bastards from the ATGM platoon .... they are the suayest jiaus of all ... other than the motar platoon ....
i hear it's not so bad now with the spike ... you should have see the chaps hump MILAN ! ...
Speaking from experience?Originally posted by ditzy:They're really useful especially when you lose the keys to the abloy locks that lock the armskote.![]()
I own an abloy lock and I tell you it takes more than an 84mm to get them open.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Speaking from experience?![]()

Well, the thing about LAW is in terms of war, once fired, can be discarded.Originally posted by wuming78:they have been developing light-weight artillery pieces. think it's high time they develop light-weight small arms which cater to our asian builds to replace the 84! and even the matador, which was supposed to replace the LAW, is, imo, too bulky and heavy! the soldier won't be effective at all humping it! what does that mean? he has all the motivation to use it quickly and get it out of the way!
you'd destroy the door being locked rather than the lock itself?Originally posted by ditzy:I own an abloy lock and I tell you it takes more than an 84mm to get them open.![]()
The US Marines still uses the 84mm but in a newer version, they call it the M3 or something. But the principle of the recoilless operation still works the same wayOriginally posted by Shigemichi Take:Well, the thing about LAW is in terms of war, once fired, can be discarded.
But 84mm, you still need to carry the freaking weapon.
In fact, i dun know if LAW rounds can pierce thick armour of the tanks.
Guess that's the reason why they still need 84mm in coy level.
I think you're referring to the US army 75th Rangers .....Originally posted by LazerLordz:The US Marines still uses the 84mm but in a newer version, they call it the M3 or something. But the principle of the recoilless operation still works the same way
Thanks for the correction.Originally posted by Fatum:I think you're referring to the US army 75th Rangers .....
they do use the 84 mainly as an anti-structure and light armour weapon .... designated as M3
It's ok what, the water passes right through it.Originally posted by thoreldan:haiz.......hope it will be gone soon....otherwise still got 7yrs more to carry this monster
river-crossing with this in brunei is no fun at all![]()
But I think the RHA (is this the term to use??) of Matador is almost on par with the 84.Originally posted by Shigemichi Take:In fact, i dun know if LAW rounds can pierce thick armour of the tanks.

then inside will be rusty.Originally posted by ditzy:It's ok what, the water passes right through it.![]()
Are you kidding me? The 84 compared to the m-16, bushmaster 25mm, 75mm, 0.5hmg, and AGL 40mm is the easiest weapon I've ever cleaned in my entire conscript life. Maybe its just me.Originally posted by Icemoon:then inside will be rusty.
Weapon cleaning the 84 is no joke.
