Currently.. from my understanding.. only medical students got this sort of flexibility.. its up to the parliment whether they want to include arts or sports inside too bah?

Ignoring the rich poor thing, NS itself isn't fair. Foreigners and local women gets 2 years / 2 1/2 years of headstart in work experience and pay, not to mention the life in the army/poor pay/trying to put a bad stain on your future working career. It is only beneficial to the white horses.

NS training is good for the present batch of guys.
Too many families have maids to take care of the daily household chores.
So, the boys dun really know how to be do simple house work.
NS would provide a good place for some house training to prepare them for the future as their wife will be worse in doing any housework.
NS is also a good place to appreciate the essence of teamwork.
The education policy dwells on individual performance, not much on teamwork.
Therefore, NS provides a good chance for the guys to mingle around with people from all walks of life. (Except White Horse)
NS is also good to bolstering the fitness of the studious crowd.
Let them sweat it out after numerous years of JUNK FOOD.
So, NS is for the mind, soul and body. -

house training? are we going to turn singapore men into women? housework is traditionally, a women's job. Why shouldn't we enlist women instead if we need NS to teach our local citizens housework? for example when i was in sec school, male and female students are sterotyped where males have to study Design and Technology while the females have to do Food and Nutrition. No choice in that matter too.
and i helped out with simple housework for some simple cooking, washing the dishes as well. Some of my male friends even know how to bake a pizza.
