  well, from my experience the Active clerk will call the NSman some 2-3 weeks in advance to "remind" of the manning period.
  But most of the time the hint turns out to be a blind, I remember once where we were activated for silent mob with totally no hint before hand.
  
  Nowadays mob is getting more "on-the-ball", they check for fullpack items, last time, you just need to carry a full-pack alone(which could be stuff with god-knows-what)
