There's nothing evil or abusive about these punishments.Rather, it's a psychological test where those recruits with personal character and integrity will stand out.If you committed a mistake, you should admit it.After all, you are still in Basic and mistakes are usually forgivable.
If you think dropping 20 is tough, wait till you are facing a charge sheet or 14 weekends confinement.But I don't blame them for their ignorance, because some of the blame lies on the instructors who love to embellish their scoldings with threats of charge etc.
If as an instructor, you do not garner the trust of your men, it will be hard to instil a sense of moral ethics and selflessness in them altogether, because they will think the extreme of whatever punishment that they might get from you.Emotionally weaker recruits may refuse to admit their wrongs and instead "allow" the whole company to suffer together because it allows them to blend in the background.
Then, it will be peer pressure that changes the character of such individuals, when they come to realise that it is not to their advantage to continually commit mistakes and hope for the "all-for-one" spirit to help them mask over their own weaknesses.
Did I lose anyone along the way?If so, paiseh.But I think it's worth noting..especially if you have recruits under your charge.

What I heard regarding the wheeled duffel bags is due to the fact that it looks nicer when units are taking commercial airlines for overseas exercise. Can't imagine a company of people carrying their ali-baba duffel bags walking about at the airport!

In my opinion, I tink my PC is making a fuss out of nothing. So pissed off with him. Just a rifle dropped on to the floor only mah.
Imagine we are going to book out soon, and he is delaying our time. Not easy to hold in pushup position or with rifle over head, esp after SOC training lor.
Ya, the PC is A level one. He known as the kao pei king. Always punish us for any small mistakes like boots not polished. -

Well, this is a cycle all real man has 2 go through...2 mths of hell and being treated like shit...But thinkin back, its all this shit which helps us become the person we are 2day...Army realli taught me a lot...Although it took up 2 yrs plus of my life, dun regret it...ha
