for regulars the highest education standard the SAF wants for their specialists is diploma.
so i assume u are interesting in joining as an officer since u are interested in going university.
but from what i heard, commandos get their officers from commando specialists and let them go for officer conversion course right?
am i correct to say that?

am i correct to say that? But that's rare.Some of the younger Specs do have part-time SIM or MDIS degrees.It helps them to gain promotion I think, esp for System Engineers. -

After BMT, they go through Basic Commando Training, and the best are sent for Commando Section Leader Course (CDO Spec course), the top few (not more than 10?) are sent to OCS to join in from ST2..and till they commission..and they go back to the CDO formation for their Commando Conversion Course..
However, this was the old system before the 2 year thing, and how Commando recruits are sent to Pasir Ris Camp instead of Hendon..Could have very small changes...
If he completes his NS as a CDO spec, and after his degree wants to sign on, depending on his results..SAF may let him go try out OCS straight..
or may just let him sign on as a CDO Spec only..
If he is a man during his NSF days..I have no idea..Probably either send him for CSLC or OCS depending how good his degree is? -

They find it out during basic commando training? Do commandos undergo basic airborne course in OCS? Is the pay in OCS high? If go OCS does it mean have to sign on?

scorrect, but officers from other units can attend the Commando Officer Conversion Course and transfer after passing the course. In my company we also had a batch of fellows from SAFINCOs who joined us that the beginning of BCT and got the beret with us. -

my registry clerk has a Bsc in Economics at Cornell Uni (Magna Cum Laude).

They choose leadership, fitness, education everything. You are judged based on official appraisal, peer appraisal, situation test, fitness test, rifle test, field camp blah blah. When Infantry Officers commission, they get $1020 as a 2LT..A Commando 2LT will earn $1170..That's hell lot for an NSF..
By the time a Commando OCT goes to OCS, he would be wearing his red beret and have his airborne badge and a 3SG rank which he will take off when he gets into OCS..He won't have walked 72km yet (That will be in his CCC)
He would be trained in almost all weapons (SAR21, M203, SAW, GPMG, CARBINE, etc)
The only 'new' thing to a Commando OCT will be Spade..since Commandoes do not need to dig trenches.. -

Man, times HAVE changed, CKtalon. In my day the OCTs walked the 72 before going to OCS.
Ken's got a good point - the military's not for everybody, and NS makes for a pretty good try-before-you-buy deal. Even though I had a good time in CDO, I'm quite glad I didn't sign on after graduating. On the other hand, one of my company mates did after he finished his degree and nine years later he's doing rather well for himself, especially after he went over to SOF. It's six of one, half a dozen of the other, and you'd really have to be on ground level to make the right choice. -
