Vocation Grade/ NS Rank for Enlistee Personnel/Enlisted Men?

That was the ranks in the past. We use to follow the British style ranks - corporals are section commanders, lance corporals section 2i/c, etc.Originally posted by Aveme:well maybe now this will be more useful.
Previously,all those who are A levels or diploma holders will have to get their corporal rank so that they will serve their 2 1/2 year,so there was a necessity to give corporal rank to all of them.
Now that all will only serve 2 years,a corporal rank is no longer needed.
So maybe recruit--->private first class--->lance corporal--->corporal ?
previously they need to locally promote corporal to become sargents so that they will be section commanders,now maybe the men will be private first class or lance corporal while the section commanders will be the corporals?
Then came this American style ranks whereby almost everywhere you look there are sergents.
With everyone serving 2 year duration, focus should be to promote those with true leadership qualities, instead of the old style way where you are promoted "automatically" to an Specialist because you have to serve 2 1/2 years of NS. -

i think the chances of that is rather low. if i recall correctly, SAF only revise the rank structure during thr early 90s. That was when warrant officer's ranks goes to the shoulder.
The reason is due to the long wait for promotion in rank, and with a high chances of screwing it up over thr yrs, a lot of regulars quited the forces during this period (1980s to early 1990s).
(to promote to a CPL or 3SG take u 3-5 yrs)
(3SG directly to SSG take as long as 10 yrs)
To them there was no incentive (money terms) as no promotion in rank means that ur pay will stalled for a very long time. When the money is no good, no one wants to continue. ( people got family to feed and stuff like tat) in the end SAF revise the rank structure to make it more attractive to the people. Resulting in 3SGs in the thousands~

if not being able to be promoted to a Cpl means that I can ORD 4months earlier I would certainly choose not to be promoted to one. Like since when is 1rank worth 4months in NS terms.
If can Ord as a recuirt after BMT. Fine.
Ranks is always relative... No point comparing... Lol/ -

3SG are the most condemned one la. Received lots of arrows and shooting them out.

REC is 00 (zero zero)
Auto Tech is 45 (four five)
Turret Tech is 50 (five zero)
Signallers/Combat Medics are grade 30
Combat Specs are grade 45
Storeman is Grade 15
