My advice for you, young man is ENJOY IT!! I'm not saying this from a "been-there-done-that" attitude or trying to belittle the whole experience, but really....it will be much better if you do. I was posted to 30SCE from Tekong and I know the kind of feeling - sian, everyday kena tekan like hell, outfield, outfield, clean weapon, clean stores, load stores, outfield some more.
Life may seem very monotonous at times, and there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. But you know what? There is light. One day, you will walk out of that camp with your pink IC. Then the inevitable question that every NSF asks himself as he puts away his number 4 - what am I going to do with my life?
My friend, go through it. Bear the hard times, enjoy the good times, become best mates with your platoon members. I look back on those days and realise that it is the only time in your life that you can "turn-off" - just do as your told and have fun. You get to shoot, blow things up, take long walks in the countryside and get fit. Seriously man, at my age you will be trying to keep the paunch away while slogging long hours in the office and being a slave to the corporate world - NS seems to be a welcome disruption. It will most probably be the time that you will be the most fit and handsome in your life. You have a good body, six packs and all. My six packs have undergone a hostile merger into one big pack.
In short, I wish you the best and do take care of yourself. Don't dwell on the negatives, but instead focus on the good things. You are fit, you are alive and breathing, you will make the best of friends in there. Enjoy your adventure! -

while it is true bmtc pple high chance go support .. it is also true if too many pple posted out they will need pple (from bmtc) to refill the strength in the rifle coys.

No point going back and think "hey I should go SISPEC or OCS". Skully too garang in SISPEC (with golden bayonet) ended up in same unit as section commander.

good and bad:
men: just act blurr, what commanders say, you just do. If never say anything, do nothing. Since now no more cookhouse fatigue, basically, when nothing else to do, you just stay in bunk, good life. Slightly lighter load in missions unless you are tasked to carrying something.
specs: when your men do sala, you get the blame. Sometimes you can arrow men to do fatigue, then you eye power. But when men resting in the afternoon after lunch, or at night like even 6pm onwards, you got to be all at the coy line, talting maps, receiving orders, marking graphs. Also expect to perform better, if not as well, as men, in terms of IPPT, SOC, UC, etc. Else men may see you as unfit leader. Also kenna guard comdr, G2IC etc, COS. Whereas men just sleep when not in guard duty, then prowl 2 hrs then sleep, senang. In mission, carry maybe more load, need to water proof signal sets, cmdrs bag, etc.
offrs: same as specs, when platoon dont do well, get f* from the battln CO all the way to CSM. Also alot of saigang, basically in missions exercises, dun expect to sleep till 2-3 am! If BDO do badly or security breach, kenna 7 extras. And men and spec, NS is 10yrs, OFFRS is 10+10 YRS.
So whats wrong with being a unit men? good life comparatively (within the ranks) you know? -

Aiya .. SAW only .. u must be proud 'cos your SAW is the lightest Light Machine Gun in the world. Or you rather carry the counterstrike's M249?
Go SAW got chance be MG Gunner or assistant.
Don't be sian lah .. your future is very much uncertain .. maybe you downgrade become armskote man.

That kind of life .. FBO all the way .. no tonner from first mission till exercise cut .. is dreadful. In real war .. no tonner means no resupply .. no water .. no food .. if can't link up with logistic train eventually .. we are dead.
