That guy is 35 years old already,do you even think it is easy to keep yourself even partially fit at that age when you have heavy work duties and likely a more busy family lifeOriginally posted by Kuali Baba:Would it be fair to say that if he had passed his fitness test in the first place, he wouldn't not have ended up like this? NSmen should be accorded a stricter medical FFI due to their age.Originally posted by Medicated Oil:I agreed with the rest of people.
They should have a more detailed medical examination of the NS men.
Not for the purpose of kenging, but to be able to single out genuine case of heart cases so that such cases do not happen any more.
Spare a thought for his wife and his childrens.
I shared the sadness with the family.
can't be ralph.. he is a nice guy... worked with him when he was back in HQ armour as chief PTI....Originally posted by Manager433:I thought is the old man with white hair, always talk dirty de?
keeping fit exercising is a different matter from passing a test.Originally posted by LazerLordz:RIP to the man and his family.
Keeping fit is your own choice, and if you know that you cannot reach the levels required of you, please get a medical opinion and ensure you are not unfairly classified.
Okay, frankly speaking, it's not hard to keep fit, if you are focused on it.You can always exercise in between busy periods, and it need not be power runs etc.
Taking a brisk walk up and down your office stairwell, do some light jogging around your block before you have dinner, not that hard isn't it.No one's trying to get you to block a whole half-day to go to the gym, and besides, so many working people have to time and the money to burn on gym membership..
Excuses?Maybe. But still, your life, your choices.I made mine a long time ago, and I will not be encumbered by the system.
The test is useful, save for the over-zealous 2.4km timing and the SBJ, IMHO.Originally posted by kingcuttlefish:keeping fit exercising is a different matter from passing a test.

well i say it is too easy for you to talk when you are not in that guy's shoes. How much do you know about him and think that your perception of keeping fit is easy and can apply to him easily as well.Do you know his working life schedule (it is a known fact that lots of white collar workers do tons of OT now),family pressure issue as well as maybe him having to take care of his aged parents commitments? Some people may just be too pressurized from these and keeping even partially fit may not be a piority to him.So unless you guys know him well, please do not try to make it as if it is his fault for not keeping fit, there maybe some people out there who really has really little of what you guys term free time.Originally posted by LazerLordz:RIP to the man and his family.

I'm agree with what you are saying, I'm just talking about general fitness level .The SAF RT system should be made truly liberalised and NSmen should not be punished too harshly for not meeting the standards.Originally posted by Aveme:well i say it is too easy for you to talk when you are not in that guy's shoes. How much do you know about him and think that your perception of keeping fit is easy and can apply to him easily as well.Do you know his working life schedule (it is a known fact that lots of white collar workers do tons of OT now),family pressure issue as well as maybe him having to take care of his aged parents commitments? Some people may just be too pressurized from these and keeping even partially fit may not be a piority to him.So unless you guys know him well, please do not try to make it as if it is his fault for not keeping fit, there maybe some people out there who really has really little of what you guys term free time.
I blame the RT system cos it is rigid and if serviceman get it,they may just push themselves too hard so as to get out of it fast.I know they have already made the RT system more flexible now already but i feel it is not enough esp when you have to go back on weekdays.Going back on weekdays really clash too much with a busy working schedule, the pressure in these days of easy retrenchment/sacking mount even higher when you have to make more time to go back for training on working days.So this result in servicemen sometimes pushing themselves too hard than what is good for them so they can get out of this RT system as fast as possible.
If the RT system is replanned in a way where each serviceman can choose each individual free day (instead of sticking to a fix schedule whether you like it or not) for doing his RT,there will be less stress to over push themselves.

maybe soon they'll stop NS altogether??![]()
I also agreed some of the station like standing broad jump is risky as it has pontential to cause slipped disc. In fact, a PTI told us once practice tuck jump can have higher chance to pass standing broad jump, more effective. Tuck jump can also cause slipped disc for ur information.Originally posted by Medicated Oil:I agreed with the rest of people.
