The army food is very good nowadays. Nobody from my unit complains - we came from a time when the cooks were doing their NS as well. Some of you would know how it was like back then.

no matter how lousy the food is, i'll always select "OK". cos i understand there are people in other places/countries eating food that are much worst than ours. don't take thing for granted.

if the monthly survey is bad, those aunties and uncles don't get an extra incentive, though small, is still money for them as in they earn not that much as cooks. They eke a living cooking for you guys, somedays the food is good, somedays not. Imagine mass cooking, the preparation work needed, long hours, sweat...etc. So, you may find the food served at your camp is not up to hawker centre standard, but in the end....

Anyway, personally I've always found my cookhouse food quite good.
Only complaint was that there was not enough fruits to go around, so one day we talked to this DSTA lady who was going around gathering feedback, and voila..the next day we had too much bananas.

I always put GOOD, if there was EXCELLENT i would put EXCELLENT.
I feel shouldnt hiam so much. And anyway, it's not like the food is really no good. Hawker fare outside also not much better. -

and seriously, the food is pretty edible since it was outsourced.
no point comparing to hawker or what... if you wanna compare with outside standards, then it'll be forever unsatisfactory if compared to restaurants standards. those nice aunties and uncles are not professional chefs! -

for me, i make it a habit to the cookhouse to eat everyday, together with my friends. i like the feeling of friends eating together and chit chatting while we eat.

Actually.. the survey thing is a gauge of the quality of food serve.
This is part of the contract between DSTA and NTUC/SFI.
Why there is a survey is so that NTUC/SFI do not become complacent and serve sub-quality food to save cost. As you may have been told, the contract pays caterer $5+ per meal served.
If Lousy is rated more that 20%, as per contract, there will be liquidated damaged to the caterer and this affects the bonus the cookhouse auntie/uncles get.
I am not sure of the aunty/uncle remuneration package, but I believe much of it is dependant on food surveys, feedbacks and cookhouse maintanance.
BUT the SADDEST part of it is the end-user (soldiers) are being immature. They have this believe that if you put lousy often enough the food gets better. Actually, the food will stay the same, but DSTA will have a second look if the menu.
THe caterer is very limited to what they can serve as menu is mandated by DSTA.
Why sometimes your superior "force" you to put things other than lousy is because too many people put lousy despited acceptable food, so they see this more as a disciplinary issue rather than the food is really lousy.
Honestly, my entire NSF time, i believe i was served lousy food only 1 time.

Seriously,I had always "cleaned up" every plate of cookhouse food I ate in the SAF.Sometimes not the most delicious around but they are still edible.
When I went back to serve the few months left of my liability.The impression I get of the kids is really spoilt brats.Scan already.Bring the food to the table.Drink the water and head for the cleaning up area.After that straight to the canteen.

the chee cheong fun is lousy though
dry, sticky and not nice gravy.
besides that, all other dishes are very good.
ESPECIALLY the second last dinner after the last mission exercise in ICT,
super good food, buffet style, eat all you want, with 2-3 flavours of colour water, +lychee, longan, pineapple soup, green bean soup, +a range of 12+ dishes. -

why you are "ordered" to put good or excellent because maybe the past 2-3 weeks it has been lousy entry 20+ percent.
usually when this happens, DSTA will not pay caterer 100%, caterer make noise with CO. Challenge CO to eat their food to see if it is edible.
CO "proclaims" food is edible and palatable.
CO "ponders" why his soldiers entered lousy and see if this pattern is isolated to a company or his battalion.
If Alpha Coy puts 50% lousy, but Bravo Coy puts 2% lousy. Obviously there is some conspiracy in Alpha Coy.
So CO thinks it is disciplinary problem.
So CO says, if Alpha enters lousy and hits 50% while Bravo, Charlie, Support seldome exceed 1%, means OC cannot keep company in order...
so you get the picture now???
