How do tanks dig in?

I always wondered about this. How do tanks protect themselves from artillery shelling?
And issit true that the driver, commander and gunner dun need to dig in? 'cos they dig in who go command and drive the tank? -

Unless it get a direct hit,if not staying inside the tank will give adequate protection -

The tanks unit don't operate alone, they also have their heavy support vehicles in massive pre emptive strike. when stay inside the tank,chances of being kill is very unlikely when arty comes!btw AI troopers don travel in tank!they travel in either bronco,m113 or bx.these r APC(armour personel carrier).AI DOES WAT INFANTRY DOES BUT ONLY THING IS TAT WE DON CARRY FBO ON OUR BACK WHILE ON MISSION!COZ WE GO 4 SPEED AND HEAVY FIRE SUPPORT WHEN ATTACKING!TAT Y WE ARMOUR AI PLATOON HAVE MORE MG THEN A ORDINARY FOOT INFANTRY PLATOON!

Then we question why do we need foot infantry when AI can do the job equally well, if not better.

So when they are dismounted,of course they will dig in their shell scrap to protect themselves.If not when on mounted role,the vehicle is supposed to give the protection needed already.
Tankees on the other hand do not have any dismounted role,so why would they need to dig in? -
this is a very gd question!i always wonder y spore need foot infantry for?and from 1 of my unit oc,he told us tat in times to come all foot infantry will convert to AI!

You might as well replace our Guards units 'cos they are also foot infantry technically. But there're here for a reason. Same for infantry units. -

wat's the diff btw mech inf and AI? well... AI have more firepower than MI, eg MI veh is the bronco and the terrex, while AI is BX and ultra.
bronco and terrex they have mobility and armour protection but little firepower. for MI, basically they will travel on vehs to as close as possible to the frontline before they dismount and carry on as per usual foot infantry. they don't do mounted assaults.
thus with both MI and AI, the fighting tempo would signifigantly increase, therefore extending range.

AI, the armor vehicle useless de,always mine on track,vehicle can't pass thru,dismount and flank to take down enemy.

MI and AI is different.....The convertion from foot infantry to MI is to have reduce the time of mission and with the veh , the foot infantry can get as close to enemy as possible...If your take a look Bronco armour is not strong ..... AI has more fire power becoz of our veh support i.e BX & M113,tank.....AI role mainly is to fight for the key installation/points or any other important facilities that is in our advantages. After that, then the foot infantry will move in and take our from amour and protect the place somehow like the P.O.I..........Then armour will carry on futher mission and to take other important point....So AI do not practice digging fire trenches.....

neither do infantry dig fire trenches. If really in war time can ask RP to do all the saikang for us anot, like clean weapon wash store and wash our vehicle.....

Most probably his unit specialized in digging .. lol .. just imagine .. by the time he finishes digging and decorate until sui sui what time liao. I presume they don't walk as much. -

And beside that the structure of A.I section/platoon is somehow different from infantry section/platoon.. -
