so u had to poke yrself silly with needles and blood taking right?Originally posted by fudgester:I was a coy medic. Combat medic spec.
I didn't pass SOC, and I wasn't forced to recourse.
If your coy medic is a service medic, he wouldn't be in your coy. Heck, he won't even be in your unit - he'll be posted out to one of the 24hr medical centers or similar.
That was during my time (2002 - 2004), but I don't expect much to have changed.
Cheers.
Of course I didn't poke myself. We all poked needles into each other's arms.Originally posted by bismarck:so u had to poke yrself silly with needles and blood taking right?
yup yup....IV no pain one......onli pain is piercing the skin....Originally posted by fudgester:Of course I didn't poke myself. We all poked needles into each other's arms.
I must have 50-60 needle scars on my arms by now. You get used to it.
u mean those 3SG medics (the coy medics) ?Originally posted by Rockhound:got coy medics...bcs medics...platoon medics...
now coy medics are drawn from bslc where they will go thru a 15 week compressed spec 2 course....so they are reasonably fit now..
As I've already said....Originally posted by bismarck:u mean those 3SG medics (the coy medics) ?
then those platoon medics >
i am asking this because the coy medic is a 3sg apparently and there's this PTE medic which i was wondering whether is he a CM or SM and now i remember he's a platoon medic.
then how come some got 3sg rank?Originally posted by fudgester:As I've already said....
All medics in a combat unit are combat medics. There are no service medics in combat units. If combat medics get downgraded to service medics, they get posted out.
So that platoon medic you're talking about is a combat medic.
Simple.... because they're Spec II medics. They went for an extra course to upgrade their medical knowledge and skills.Originally posted by bismarck:then how come some got 3sg rank?
how is training as a medic like ?Originally posted by fudgester:Simple.... because they're Spec II medics. They went for an extra course to upgrade their medical knowledge and skills.
It is a very common and false misconception that medics are all enlistees. Battalion senior medics are in fact at least 2SG and above. Brigade senior medics are SSG and above.
Heck, I believe the highest ranking medic in the SAF is a SWO.
service onli got paramedic phase..combat got combat phaseOriginally posted by bismarck:how is training as a medic like ?
