  I can't speak for Heng, but I believe the point is that you shouldn't just take what other people say verbatim and take it to be the whole truth without questioning it.
  
  What you ought to be doing is to find out more about the issue at hand from other sources as well. You should then analyse these different sources and make your own judgements and conclusions. Different people have different opinions of the same situation. By limiting yourself to just one singular source (the MOE), you cannot necessarily get a view of the bigger picture.
  
  Otherwise you're nothing more than a parrot for what the MOE says, unable to consider and appreciate the viewpoints of others.

  well. i, for one, agree with huaqing's point that ns is necessary, and it is the responsibility of all able-bodied singaporean males to serve ns in contribution to the nation's defence.

  I thought the punishment about defaulters is in the Act? No jail .. just fine for the equivalent case, IMHO.
