anyway sounds like a conspiracy to me. 400men in a contained area lukg for a rifle sounds to exagerated to me.
i wouldnt b surprised if it was a serviceman who snapped while out on training n awol w a live weapon. tts y the huge activation of manpower.
i personally was involved in another similar search involving more personnel. but that incident wasnt reported. -

Can someone advice how is it possible to lose a M16? unless that fellow is taking care of a few equipment.

Its something more sensitive than a rifle, just that they have to say its one so as not to arouse bigger suspicion.

Well... bear this in mind....
When three armed robbers were on the loose in Tekong, how many soldiers and SPF personnel were deployed to hunt them down?
Of course, three armed robbers != one M16S1 rifle, but you get the point. -
Well. in my opinion I think why it become a big case because the rifle was not found in the immediate hours.
Had it been found within 6 hours of discovery of loss, i think the matter would still be within SISPEC.
But after a period of time, to save their own A$ses, sispec must report to their HQ (9DIV in this case) and mobilise necessary manpower.
Imagine if the SISPEC PC scared scared go and just keep quiet and keep it within his platoon. The news will be BIGGER if few days later the DO found out that the armskote is missing 1 weapon.
A rifle is a rifle. You have one, you load it, you kill people. That's how dangerous it is.
Who here doubt me if one can singlehandedly overtake a small camp during this CNY days with an M16 rifle?
Anyway, you all should more or less have heard about that Brunei case and the Jurong Island case. they were big cases too. -
With this being blasted on the news, I would expect more sensitve comments coming out from the forumers who doesn't think of others.

well if it is just one lost m16,there are isolated cases over the years that are mostly covered up.
I have personally being involved in a search mission during my overseas trip training in Thailand for a lost m16,exercise cut and whole battalion went to search for it.The weapon was not found even after a few days of searching and then suddenly there is news that some thai villagers found it and return it to SAF,damn lucky if not we would had being staying back in thailand to look for it until it is found as a weapon lost oversea is a very serious case. -
i wonder how the rifle is lost and tat the guy did;t realise it til late..
