Another thing...
The courses taught by SMM are fully accredited by the Paramedic Academy of the Justice Institute of British Columbia in Canada. In 2000, SMM received ISO9002 accreditation for its basic Combat Medic Course. All medics are taught both first responder paramedic skills as well as combat medic skills (as Encik Rockhound said).
The medics are taught the same things as their SCDF counterparts during the paramedic phase. Then nominally, at least, the medics of the SAF are the equals of the SCDF paramedics. There are four levels of paramedics: Level I (corresponding to enlistee medics), Level II (medic specs), Level III (senior medics), and Level IV(the really high-level senior medics).
Upon successful completion of Level III, senior medics are given the paramedic badge. I don't have the image here, but it's basically a red version of the universal paramedic Star of Life symbol on a camouflage background.
