For ALL those who have went through NS.....fear and thoughts

Hi, Im 19 this year, think of going into army soon liao. Whenever I hear anything about NS, my heart will jump
I have seen, heard whether if it froms media, TV shows or from friends, I found it very hard to accept that im gona go through all this. Even after all the while tat i know tat sooner or later guys have to go to NS. I felt insecured, worried and fear of the unknown in NS, the main object of fear is not the hardships but rather the complete lifestyle in which i hav ever face in life. 
Anyway I would like to ask if any pple who have went through NS before entering army itself hav this kind of fear jus like me? After u been through it do u realise that ur fear is not warranted like "Nah it is not as scary as it reali is" or " I served the army with constant fear all the time and hav no intention to go through it again"?
Jus wanna know wats ur thoughts and fear BEFORE entering and AFTER coming out is the same?

haha I just finished my BMT field camp, you can read about it in another topic.
physically NS is very tolerable i guess. I guess it may be tough at times but definitely not over the limit. Why? there are always weaker guys than you.
For me whenever I feel tired during route march I just look at the smaller guys in my platoon, those <50kg who are carrying the same damn field pack, and I just feel much more energetic.
mentally? NS is definitely challenging. Gotta find your own motivation and direction and be independent. GOtta tell yourself it is worthwhile serving 2 years of shit while others continue their studies or work in higher paying jobs. gotta tell yourself ure doing it for the country. Gotta force yourself to do more so that your platoon mates can do less( or rather, do more even when your platoon mates decide to slack)
But of course im not the most experienced here, but these are my thoughts from a month-old recruit. As for tekhaning and one-one screwing by commanders, just remember that tough times dont last, tough men do. The only serious enough punishment you get is Detention in DB. unless you kill someone or intentionally steal stuff esp millitary equipment or go AWOL, you wont kena, lah. -

2 weeks before my enlistment, I started to worry about life in the army. Heard of tekaning, hardship through the BMT. Started to miss the hobbies I have done, my friends, family. Losing the freedom to go places I want.
3 days before enlistment, I totally broke down. I started to lose interest in my hobbies, things i used to enjoy. I kept thinking of the life in army, fearing I am unable to cope with it.
Things started to change during the enlistment there. You will see similar, worried faces beside you. Soon you will have friends who will walk through the hardship with you. YOu will get used to the army life within the 1st week. Nothing to be feared of.
Soon I realise my fears and worries were totally redundant. It is not as hard as what you think. You still get free times to chat and play with your friends.
I can assure you, training there is very real;istic and progressive....

think on the bright side, sure got some cockanarden in the platoon to provide the laughter. its quite fun actually in the army. u see lots of ppl, chaokeng ppl, siao on ppl, bo chap ppl, "pai kia" ppl n cockanardans. need to ku zhong zhuo le in army

Best is to stay low profile. Just do wat the sgts say. -
there's nothing to fear really. i'm probably 1 of the most bo chup ppl in the NS. people could scream at me threatening to charge me and all that and i'd still be expressionless.
just concentrate your mind on what you intend to do after ORD, and time passes rather fast. -
It normal to fear lah ,i still remember last time the night b4 enlist i couldn't sleep whole night.Anyway my views are that the u do not have to worry abt your fitness at all,just follow the crowd,dun do extra things n dun do too little things,just maintain the same standard as the rest.
But dun worry lah from what i think nowadays tekong 2.4 run halfway can fall out if tired n correct me if i am wrong now it like u dun have to pass anything right ,just attend can liao,i dunno lah last time my standards is different from now. -
all those fears and worries of NS are all over-rated. they're nothing, NS is peanuts compared the greater challenges u will face in life later.

I dun deny that physically it will be shiong and some people take a longer time to adapt from a civilian to military life.....
so just endure, make new friends, dun be the sabo king in the platoon and you will find 2 years will fly past -

take NS as a opportunity to prepare yourself to walk out of your comfort zone, open your eyes to what's the real world is about, learn first hand the ugly side of human behaviour, office polities, shooting of arrows etc etc.

few tips for BMT
always stay low profile
dun be the first one to volunteer anything
dun give suggestion
dun try to gey kiang n try to motivate the whole platoon
if they wan volunteers for guard duty, n they tell u everyone gotta do at least once, its bs, dun volunteer
during pc/ps interview, dun bother to feedback abt any 3sg cos it aint going to work
its jus for paper sake, u wan u go direct to ur CSM or Orientation Officer or SAF hotline if u really feel something is wrong
bring lotsa lotsa food, cup noodles, cookies, these are prized possesions in tekong
few tips on posted unit
for the 1st half a yr, do the same also, try to be friendly to everyone, know who are the gd guys and bad guys, from then onwards, no need for us to teach u
cos u be almost a "laojiao" soldier liao, u know how to play wif the system, or know how to play rank, and know who to go to overwrite ur upper rank
when i say play rank, i dun mean u use ur rank to order pple to do ur thing, or to siam ur way out, i mean use ur rank to protect urself
no need to go about carrying balls, jus try to be friendly, ur true friends will emerge, who knows ur gd friend will actually turn out to be the Commanding Officer of the unit (this is wad happen to my friend, CPL, but CO's best billard buddy)
wen r new bird in anywhere, sure will get bully, dun worry, things will get better, everyone who gone thru NS sure will know
tips for pre enlistees
unless ur parents going to support u thru NS, pls save up lotsa n lotsa money, few hundred aint gonna get u by in singapore
pls stop ur bad habits of betting soccer or wad, ur few hundred aint enuff to cover ur transportation or food
if u have a gf, u gotta decide btween her and ur stay in unit. then work ur way towards it
if u wan to be in a stay out unit, the preparation gotta start now, dun wait until tekong or wad den u start to regret -
NS is tough, maybe not as tough as before as some people like to complain, but still it is tough and suxs. Tekan for no reason and sometime you will feel, wtf am I even doing here? You will feel many injustices and sometimes you cant really do anything about it. Some people also like to pull rank but just tell yourself once you are out of NS, so what if he is a warrant officer or captain or whatever, who cares about their rank.
However, one thing that is really great is about Ns is that you are sure to meet really good frens. Seriously, I think that is the only thing that is good about it. For me, I find the monthly pay good, esp when you are doing nothing...^^ -
