qn about ACS

  hi guys,
  
  i was at SBAB last week for heliborne/fastrope training...noticed the ACS (aircrew specialists) all lace their ID tags through their boots, and their name patches have their nicknames (eg typhoon, cyclone, smiley) instead of their real names...whats the reason behind this practice, does anyone know?

  For ID Tag, it's safety, because wearing a necklaced ID tag is a safety hazard as it can be sucked into the engines, etc.
  
  For the nametags, it's their "call sign" since when airborne they would only communicate with radio.
  
  I dunno if these has also got anything to do incase they become POW during combat.

  yup. call sign are use for coms perposes. Dogtag on shoes because of FODs possibes.
